habits that help

Good morning!

I have been so blessed to have some very deep, profound and meaningful conversations recently. It’s interesting to me that the more things go crazy in life and the world, the more we hunker down into what really matters.

A recent theme in various conversations that I’ve had centered around how to get from doing all the little unnecessary distracting things to doing the things that really matter. The things that will propel you forward.

Probably one of the most common denominators related to stagnation is confusion. There may be so many things we think we should do or areas that need work, but it’s all just so much that we don’t know where to start.

Interestingly, the best thing one can do is start a tiny habit and put it on repeat daily. Starting with what is a high value goal to you and then reverse engineering things so that you break it down into micro steps that are easy to do and make you feel good. We do things consistently that we enjoy. That is a key element toward the long haul of moving toward that goal.

God made our brains so that we can change and redirect nerve pathways and create new tracks that are productive. All through the Bible there are truths about discipline and daily habits. They are the backbone of life!  Unfortunately, life gets very messy and we all lose our way at times. But God is always faithful to shine a light and redirect us.

My grounding always comes back to His Word and His promises. When I make time to plant those in my mind daily, other things come into clear focus. Have you found anything that grounds you?

1 Corinthians 9:24-27

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.

such a hard thing for many of us to do but truly makes a huge difference!

Yes, I need to get back to being consistent. Thank you for this reminder. I need to start off small and build that consistency muscle.

This is one of the reasons I like to watch decluttering videos on Utube. Then I realize I have 18 video tabs open and it is defeating the purpose 😀. And thinking about your message, I see that James Clear’s name is very apropos. Sadly, I don’t have anything biblical that grounds me. No North Star that I innately navigate toward.
