I actually liked the attunements. It felt quite organic - if you played since release of BC, of course. The attunement chart https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/59icwk/a_different_kind_of_flowchart_early_bc_attunement/ was scary before release, but as you played, you noticed "hey, I already knocked out a good chunk of that just by playing content while it's current and still rewarding clear upgrades!" Also, I liked having a reason to do heroic dungeons again and again, I enjoyed that more than the repeat runs of M+ today. To be honest though, I *think* I benefitted from the loosening of the attunements at the end of the expansion, we hadn't killed Kael yet before progressing into Hyjal and BT. I guess an optimal way would be to apply a similar timeline, but shortened to that one year you mentioned. Have the attunements present at first, but loosen them over time.
