New Story - Headquarters (Guildhall 2.0) (Poll)
Added 2025-04-05 16:26:18 +0000 UTCHello everyone! So, as you may be able to tell from the title, I have decided to go with the Guildhall concept for my new story, but with a serious twist. After some thought, I realized that the Guildhall and Generals Questbook would actually work together really well. The focus would be shifted to a larger scale, but the quests would either reward the MC with things like a group of troops, a single lieutenant, a pair of medics or better weapons for your troops. It could also reward the MC with barracks, a garage, a surgery suite, or the production of a certain piece of equipment.
Other Changes:
The Guildhall is now more of a Headquarters (If you have a better suggestion for what to call it, please let me know.)
The Headquarters is now a tangible location in one of the realities it is connected to. This means that the rewarded upgrades are not just internal, but external as well. The MC may unlock things like barracks, protective walls and more. Basically, it exists in one reality but is attached to another.
The other world, (the one that the Guildhall does not physically reside in), is a dark alternate versions of the world where things have gone bad. Imagine RWBY but Salem has almost won, or Mass Effect where the Reapers have killed most intelligent life, or Harry Potter where Voldemort won and the world is a wasteland. (Alternatively they could be worlds where everything is already pretty bad, like Mad Max.) It would be this way so:
No infrastructure exist to auto-win quests. For example, securing a hundred pounds of food cant be solved just by going to a grocery store.
The world would be AU enough for me to have plenty of flexibility.
MC can't just mass recruit from the non-physical side.
Recruited people from other side might be useful, but they will be excluded from certain rewards. For example, he may complete a quest that increases troop durability by ten percent. That would only effect troops earned through other quests. On top of that, they won't accrue headquarter backed abilities. He may receive a quest to increase the quartermasters variety of food, but only if the quartermaster was earned through a quest. If the person running the garage was recruited, he will never get the option to unlock anything for them.
Soldiers and other rewarded members are people with real souls. Basically, souls sometimes escape reincarnation process and are lost to the void. The the entities behind the Headquarters grab souls from the void, saving them from endless torment. The entities then prep the souls with whatever power/abilities/skills they need, before shoving them into new bodies and dropping them off. Once they die for the MC, they re-enter the reincarnation cycle, no longer doomed to literal endless suffering.
This is all to explain how he is basically creating slave soldiers, real, thinking people, who follow his commands, without their being any ethical dilemma. Basically, their lifetime of servitude, maybe even multiple lifetimes, is the cost for avoiding endless torture and suffering, something they are aware of and happily agree with. They want to be here.
This doesn't mean they have death wishes. Living is still a novel, interesting experience, and death is something souls naturally want to avoid.
Possible Changes:
A perception filter to keep people from panicking about soldiers and buildings coming from no where.
Quests are only available on the attached world, not the world where the Headquarters is physically present.
Just how reality breaking the reward process will be. Do things just appear like magic, or do small construction robots come out and build things over a few days? Do the troops just come from a spawn closet, or do they get dropped off from another dimension?
The MC eventually unlocks new realities connected to the Headquarters (the world with no physical presence.)
This is format I am looking to use for my new story. What you guys can help me with is:
What do you think about the possible changes?
Any suggestions for what worlds the Headquarters exists in and is attached to.
Any issues, additions, or just general opinions.

I think it would be interesting if the world where the HQ is, is under constant threat or at least it must survive waves of enemies coming to attack it for one reason or another. Kinda like some factorio/multi-cross fics I've seen. Also, I think it might be somewhat more balanced if whenever our MC heads out to another world, he can't establish a base there without some sort of enemy attraction Aura being placed on his FOB, that way "expeditions" into the other worlds don't have an easy means of stockpiling local resources, all gathered material must be brought back to HQ for them to be safe. Basically, this is Extraction-Shooter: The Multi-Cross fic. Edit: Also, realistic deployments would just be kino. Having a whole gunship make a hot drop in a combat zone is super cool. Especially if you have to storm a beachhead ala Halo:CE Silent Cartographer style. If ally units can just be warped in them it removes a lot of style from our combined arms war machine.

I agree with others that marvel would be a very good universe, a sort of superhero team coming from the headquarters would be absolutely sick.
