I am not keen on the punishment notion and prefer to think of a gentle easing so that they become happy to be more like a girl. In this scene they have escaped in lovely travelling outfits and seem rather at ease - before their surprise. It is nice to see, even though their postures are just, perhaps, a little boyish. Here they are in the outside world ( of a kind!) seemingly two girls hoping to travel.. How enchanting that could be.

I wonder has Mademoiselle got a sailor dress outfit (just like the one in the back there) for Chris and friend to wear while punished to remind him of his failed escape. xx
