The hard work never stops

The long-awaited Swansong update had just dropped and I found that the devs had attempted to fix some of the native ultrawide issues affecting the game. Before the update, the gameplay FOV scaling was purely horizontal, so the 21:9 and wider users never got to see more than a 16:9 user. The cutscenes were just pillarboxed and everyone got to see as much as the next person at those.

The update introduced new code featuring improper calculations. The new native experience is slightly vert- at 21:9 and severely vert+ at 32:9 and 48:9, meaning that there's no match to the 16:9 experience at the gameplay in any case. At the cutscenes, there is both pillarboxing and FOV discrepancies.

People tend to celebrate their birthdays but I spent half the day hunting down the devs' new code only to remove it and have the game calculate the right way for perfect vertical parity and no black bars once again. I feel satisfied now because I get to share the outcome of this work with you. Maybe this in itself is a gift to me today!

You can check out the updated Additional Screenshots of my WSGF report and download the new version of the solution. Perhaps you are waiting for the Steam release, and in that case I hope the new solution brings us closer to it for when it lands.
