If you're not currently into making 3D art, the prospect sounds daunting... Lots of terms and slang that sound like gibberish, complicated software to learn, etc... It's really not that bad... (Oh all of those things are true! But it's like anything else, you just get used to it...)
Even though I've been doing 3D using DAZ Studio for like 7 years, there are still thinks I have no clue about. I stopped trying to figure out the Advanced lights years ago. At the time, I had a hard time finding instructions for the Uber Area Light that I could understand (also, I hate reading directions...) so I just learn to wing it with the standard lights. But now, I feel the need to try this stuff out again.... (Those a white rectangles are emissive light plans. They make light in a slightly different way then the standard spotlight... but they slow down render time!)
