Order of the Phoenix - Chapter 51

Three hours dragged by. The storm had abated, leaving a heavy, oppressive humidity in its wake. The SWAT team, weary and increasingly skeptical, huddled under makeshift shelters, their initial enthusiasm dampened by the fruitless search and the absurdity of their quarry.

"This is ridiculous," one officer muttered, swatting at a mosquito buzzing around his face. "We're chasing ghosts in a swamp. Literally."

The commander, his frustration mounting, radioed Caine. "Lieutenant, any updates? My men are getting restless."

Caine, perched on a fallen log beside Duquesne, sighed. "Nothing yet, Commander. But we're staying vigilant."

He glanced at Harry and Daphne, who were standing a short distance away, engaged in a hushed conversation. Their faces were pale and drawn, their eyes darting nervously through the dense foliage.

"I don't like this," Daphne whispered, her voice barely audible over the chirping of crickets. "He's been quiet for too long."

"He's planning something," Harry agreed, his gaze fixed on the dark shadows that danced between the trees. "He's waiting for the right moment to strike."

Daphne shivered, pulling her damp robes closer around her. "What if he goes for the muggles? The SWAT team?"

Harry's jaw tightened. "That would complicate things. We can't let him hurt them."

"But what can we do?" Daphne asked, a note of desperation in her voice. "There are so many of them. If they scatter, we won't be able to protect them all."

Harry pondered the problem, his mind racing through possible scenarios. "We need to keep Lucius's attention focused on us," he finally said. "If he sees us as the bigger threat, he might ignore the muggles."

Daphne nodded slowly. "That makes sense. But how do we do that?"

Harry's eyes gleamed with a mischievous light. "We give him a show."

He turned to face the SWAT team, raising his voice just enough for them to hear. "Lucius!" he called out, his voice echoing through the swamp. "We know you're out there! Come and get us!"

Daphne gasped, her eyes widening in surprise. "Harry, are you mad?" she hissed.

He grinned at her, the tension in his face momentarily replaced by a boyish recklessness. "Maybe a little. But it's the only way."

The SWAT team, startled by Harry's outburst, turned towards the source of the sound. The commander, his radio crackling to life, barked orders. "Everyone, on alert! The targets are calling out the suspect. Stay close, keep your eyes peeled."

Harry and Daphne retreated back into the shadows, their wands held at the ready. They could hear the rustle of leaves and the crunch of boots as the SWAT team spread out, their weapons trained on the surrounding darkness.

"Do you think he'll take the bait?" Daphne whispered, her voice trembling slightly.

Harry shrugged. "He's arrogant. He thinks he's superior to us. He'll come."

They waited, the silence broken only by the croaking of frogs and the distant rumble of thunder. The tension was palpable, the air thick with anticipation.

Suddenly, a rustle of leaves behind them sent them spinning around, wands raised. A figure emerged from the darkness, tall and menacing, his white hair glowing in the moonlight.

Lucius Malfoy had arrived.
