Order of the Phoenix - Chapter 52

Harry and Daphne instinctively pulled out their wands, their eyes locked on the approaching figure. The polished wood gleamed under the moonlight, a stark contrast to the sleek, black weapons of the SWAT team.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" the commander exclaimed, his voice sharp with alarm. "What the hell do you think you're doing with those sticks?"

Harry, his eyes never leaving Lucius, retorted, "Saving your lives, if you'd let us."

The commander, taken aback by the teenager's audacity, spluttered, "Saving our lives? With... with what? Magic tricks?"

Harry and Daphne shared a knowing glance before turning back to the treeline, ignoring the commander's protests. Daphne, her voice barely a whisper, muttered, "He's there. In the woods. Watching us."

Harry nodded, his grip on his wand tightening. "I can feel his eyes on us. He's waiting, assessing the situation."

The SWAT team exchanged uneasy glances, their confusion and disbelief palpable. They had been trained for high-risk scenarios, armed with the latest tactical gear, yet these two teenagers, armed with nothing but sticks, seemed utterly unfazed by the imminent threat.

"What's the plan?" Daphne asked, her voice a steady counterpoint to the chaos around them.

"We draw him out," Harry replied, his eyes narrowing in concentration. "We force him to engage us, away from the others."

Daphne nodded, understanding dawning in her eyes. "A distraction," she murmured.

"Exactly," Harry confirmed. "But we need to make it a spectacle. Something he can't ignore."

In perfect synchronization, they raised their wands towards the dense woodline where Lucius was hiding. "Lumos Maxima!" they shouted in unison.

The effect was instantaneous and breathtaking. A blinding beam of light erupted from their wands, illuminating the entire area with a brilliance that rivaled the sun. The trees, the undergrowth, the very air itself seemed to shimmer with magical energy.

Lucius, caught off guard by the sudden illumination, stumbled back from the treeline, his pale face contorted in surprise and anger. His wand flew to his hand, but before he could react, Harry and Daphne unleashed a barrage of spells.

"Expelliarmus!" Harry yelled, his voice echoing through the swamp. A jet of red light shot from his wand, narrowly missing Lucius's arm.

"Petrificus Totalus!" Daphne followed up, her spell freezing a nearby tree in place, its branches contorting into grotesque shapes.

Lucius, caught in the crossfire, deflected the spells with a flick of his wrist, a sneer curling his lips. "Foolish children," he hissed. "You think your parlor tricks can harm me?"

The SWAT team and the detectives watched in stunned silence as the scene unfolded before them. Flashes of light, explosions of color, and the deafening crack of spells filled the air, a surreal spectacle that defied all logic and reason.

"What the hell is going on?" the commander shouted, his voice barely audible over the magical cacophony.

Caine, his eyes wide with a mixture of fear and fascination, could only shake his head. "I don't know, Commander. But I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore."
