Harmony Chapter 4 update

Hi everyone.

If any of you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know that I’ve been buisily working on the new Chapter as well as revisions to some of the old stuff for a while now.

Here’s my yearly plan:

Sweet Harmony

I’m making several improvements and revisions to existing stuff- particularly regarding Grouping, Turnarounds, The Node View Screengrabs as well as various corrections and enhancements. The Julio chapter has had the most extensive revision work, with far more diagrams and how-tos to cover a variety of subjects including turnarounds and a new, simpler method of creating Epic Arms.

The new master controllers are getting featured as well, and a new section on Sheet-based deformers which will cover not only the new weighted deformer, but also the Mesh Warp and Point Kinematic Outputs.

This will also cover basic Expressions, and the parts of the X sheet, as knowing these things a little really helps with some hard to reach areas of rigging.

Cat Class ABC - Harmony Essentials

As for the rest of the year, I am about to embark on an epic 3 part series on how to learn Harmony Essentials which will be entitled Cat Class ABC.

Despite using the most basic version of the software, these are going to be quite cinematic affairs- aiming for a combination of tutorial and artistic inspiration which even the uninterested in Harmony can enjoy, rather than a dry, bog standard screen recorded tute.

Each episode will feature a complete type of work from total start, to total completion. I’m aiming for each one to be about 30 mins, but we’ll see.

Toon Boom Kaboom!

While all this is going on, I’ve started to compile techniques for what I’m calling my ToonBoom cookbook which will consist of various ‘recipes’ for use in any Toon Boom Harmony Premium puppet and workflow. At the moment, there are 5 sections- Cloth, Flesh, Speech, Automation & Workflow- this is subject to change, but you get the idea!

This will be a totally different book to Sweet Harmony, and will be structured in a totally different way, and feel quite different.

The cats, will still be around to guide you, don’t worry.
