Metro-North Zone Map
Added 2022-09-17 14:00:06 +0000 UTCHere area couple of maps pulled from the Metro-North YouTube video. The first one shows the zones of the trains. The second map shows the equivalent in terms of prices.
Since prices are based on distance, Zone 41 doesn't necessarily mean it's a lot more expensive than Zone 6. In fact, they are about the same (maybe a difference of $0.50).

I'm guessing it's for logistical reasons.
