Synopsis:

Only a few weeks after the start of the term at Miatori Girls School, freshman student Mikoto Kiyoharu faces the biggest pinch thus far: somebody wants her out of the school and is willing to go to extreme lengths to achieve this—but who could it be, and moreover, why?

What follows is a frantic battle of wits, at the end of which awaits an answer most tragic.

Originally published in 2015 under a different title and distributor, the story has been heavily edited and rewritten for its relaunch as an Amazon-exclusive.

Long ago, in high school, there was a girl I loved.

We were friends before, but when I realized I loved her, I became so afraid of losing her, that I turned mighty nervous and ended messing up everything, before anything could even truly begin. 

So it is that the harder we people want something, the less likely we are to get it.

It was in processing this heartbreak that I came up with the idea behind this story, although I wasn't actually able to write it until much later. Today, I can't really remember the feelings of the high school me so well, and the story was retooled into a crime mystery instead of a romantic drama, but the core is still there.

The delight of meeting someone you like.

The dread of losing that bond.

The fleeting nature of friendships.

The pain of carrying on.

This story became something of an expression of grief, but as with the tarot card of Death, destruction also stands for the beginning of new, cleansing, and improving.

I challenged myself to play a bit with the formatting in this book too, by breaking the common novel formula. As a result, it features a brazen time skip of 10 months, and an epilogue that's over 1/6 the total length of the book.

The books in the Saintly Girls Zone series tell about Mikoto's life in the school of Miatori in non-chronological order. The short stories of volume 2 take place after the events of the first half of volume 3 (set directly after vol.1), and the second half of this book takes place right before what was intended to be the final, 12th volume in the series.

I hope it's not too confusing to follow!
