Hey everybody.

I think that people don't realize that making this game is the easiest part of my life. It's a part of my life that I really enjoy. I've always considered it work, but it's work that I like to do. Even before I was being paid for it, I loved sitting at the computer and creating this world.

So every time I get a well-meaning person telling me to take a break, focus on yourself first, don't work so hard, and so on, I always find it pretty frustrating. I've been doing this for a while now, and have not even come close to burning out. That's because I love it. When I feel like I need a day off, I'll take it, but when I've attempted to force myself to take days off, I get even more down, because I'll be playing a game, or going out and doing something, when what I really want to do is work on the next scene or write a new conversation. That's what I enjoy doing.

So while I appreciate the thought of everybody wanting me to look out for my mental health, believe me, I am. I'm doing fine. I'm enjoying my work. I'm having a blast making this game. There are some other things in my life (the less fun stuff) that I could be doing better, but that's the way it always is and I'm working on it. Then there are things that I just can't do anything about and have to accept, like frequent existential crises about the world ending or a political uprising stopping me from finishing my game.

Anyways, that's what I'm thinking about this morning. I'm feeling a little down because of a few things, but it'll be okay. I'm excited about the premium edition release on Friday. I'm really hoping it does well and that I can start looking for a new house soon. I'm planning on going out hiking this afternoon, since the weather is a little nicer and warmer here in North Texas.

I'm still playing through Dead Space, and I'm wanting to play the new Metroid Prime Remaster, but I don't have the data to download it until next month. Also, I picked up this board game called Final Girl and Mango and I have been enjoying playing that together.

That's pretty much all I have for today. Hope y'all have a great week. Love ya!

It's all a matter of perspective. As a musician, writing and recording is work. Especially if there is a deadline involved. But for most of my life, taking a break meant playing one of my instruments. So how does that work? Even after 30 years of doing this; I have kind of come to a conclusion. It depends on what I'm doing. Sitting there jamming along to one of my already written songs, or to a funky drum beat, is very relaxing and an actual disconnection from my "work." So it definitely isn't work. Sometimes it generates a new idea, sometimes not. It's not easy for people who don't do this type of work to understand, but the arts are kind of different. Especially when they do turn into our "jobs." Long story long, when people tell me that, I usually just look at them with my little half-smile (people tell me it's a "knowing" half-smile), and tell them, "I have my ways." And leave it at that. Hope you find this helpful. #alwayswriting 🤗 ~Toby

I think the joy you have creating the game really comes through in the game itself. Even though it sometimes addresses some serious and darker/scarier subject matter, overall the game is fun and upbeat and is one of the things I love about it. My greatest wish for you is that the fulfillment and happiness you glean from creation can spill over more into your more mundane tasks. And this comment is way too long okbye.
