RJ Ramblings

Hey everybody!

Not a whole lot of new stuff to talk about this last week. It's been a good week. I'm feeling a little better. My allergies are better. I actually went out and had a nice day in Dallas with my partner and a friend on Tuesday, which is the first time I've gone out in a while.

My mind, outside of work, has been very focused on D&D the last week or two. We're about to finish up a long campaign that a friend ran and I'm itching to run a game again, so I've been doing a lot of prepwork for that in my spare time. I really enjoy it when my brain is in this mode, where I'm excited about something and can focus on doing it.

I've also been doing a lot of miniature painting still and enjoying that a lot. And while I've been working, doing things like renders and animations, I've been catching up on Critical Role as well, because I love those guys, but I don't have a ton of time to watch usually. When I'm writing or coding or testing, I can't really watch stuff, but when I'm doing renders, I can. So right now, at this step in development, I'm able to watch stuff while I work.

I've had somebody suggest that maybe I talk about my development workflow a little deeper. Is that something that you guys would be interested in the ramblings? Or maybe it's something I could do separate? Is it something that you care about anyway? I know there are a lot of aspiring game-developers out there, but I still think it's a small percentage of the actual subscribers here, and I'm not sure how much people who aren't interested in making a game will care about the minutia of game-making. But I was thinking of maybe once every month or so, going into detail about how I do some things, either in the place of a Ramblings, or possibly as something extra.

The Ramblings are interesting, because sometimes I sit down and I don't really have anything to say, or I don't feel like saying anything personal that week, but once I start typing, it just starts flowing out. It's almost like talking to a therapist, because at the end of the Ramblings, I feel better about things. It's a way for me to collect all my thoughts and get them out, whether for good or bad. So, overall, I like writing these and I think it's good for me to do it. It helps me take account of what happened in the last week and put everything in perspective.

Couple more quick things that I did this week. I finished Resident Evil 4 Remake. It was super fun and I loved it and I"m planning on trying to 100% it. Going through my second run now, but taking it slow because I have other games to play as well. I watched Cocaine Bear with my friends last night. We all love bad movies and watch them together pretty regularly. Cocaine Bear just wasn't that fun though, unfortunately. Still had a good night.

That's about it, really. This week is probably going to be the last chill, relaxing week for a while. Next week, we start looking for a rent house and things are likely going to get stressful with that. So I'm taking the time to relax and enjoy myself and be happy and hopefully things won't be too bad with the house search.

Okay, enough rambling. Gotta get to work. Love you all. <3

process is cool.

I would love to hear more about the process, though not as a replacement for Ramblings. I've had a game idea on the backburner for a while but haven't had the energy to jump in completely on it yet. I think that initial step might be the most daunting, for me. Plus I see so many "abandoned" titles and don't want to add to that pile.

Definitely interested in more information about your workflow. Renpy is accessible, but it's hardly easy. Additionally, it's always fun to see how the sausage is made without getting bogged down in just "here's how I make assets". It's one thing to have all the legos, or D&D minis, but it's putting it together that makes it interesting.
