Getting a bit of a late start today, because I had a very nice wake-up, but I hope you enjoy this little Dia de los Muertos render I did. For those who don't know, I'm half-Mexican and my partner is Mexican, so we do celebrate Day of the Dead, with the dressing up and all that. We didn't do last year, because of COVID reasons, but this year we are planning on dressing up and going to a parade next week. Maybe if I get enough support, I'll post a pic.
Let's see, what have I been doing this week outside of work?
Well, we changed up the way we do meals around here, so I did all the cooking for the week last Tuesday. It went pretty well, overall! Still learning what freezes good and and warms up well. I've learned that soups are great, and chicken is not so great. Overall, was good though. We still have a lot of stuff frozen (I cooked 6 meals, which got broken down into like 20-30 servings) so I don't really have to cook much this week. Going to do a little cooking session tomorrow, but not as big as I did the week before. It's been nice not having to cook and clean every night though. Just one less thing to worry about.
We've been watching horror movies pretty often, cause October. Mostly bad ones. I can't remember what all we've watched, but the last couple were Sleepaway Camp III and Edge of the Axe. I actually love the first Sleepaway Camp movie, but the sequels have not been great. Edge of the Axe was just something I stumbled upon on Amazon and was not very good at all, but had a slightly interesting twist at the end.
I finished Metroid: Samus Returns on the 3DS, which I'd been playing off and on for a week or two. Was really fun, though a little bland after playing Metroid Dread. Playing Super Metroid next, which I haven't played in a long time, and am already having a blast with. It's not as fluid gameplay-wise as the newer games, but dang it's still super fun.
I guess that's pretty much all I got this week. Not much going on here. Excited every morning to get up and continue working on the game. Looking forward to Halloween! Love you all!

2021-10-28 16:08:12 +0000 UTCMovies for Halloween! I was surprised to find a few scary gems I had never heard of from the past and present. Just saw Blood Fest on Amazon, which was nice horror/comedy at a Scarepark, and ran across Hell Fest and Haunt.

2021-10-28 16:03:05 +0000 UTCMeal planning books can be really good if you are planning to cook they way you are. I'm a pretty basic guy and can make a solid chili that we can eat off of for days. When my wife is under the weather, that is usually what I do. But I've been known to do other stuff like stews, Fish En Papillote, and a new one I just tried last week, Pasta e Fagoli (simple and tasty, who knew?). We usually don't have a batch of anything around long enough to go bad, but we bought a bunch of glass snapware containers so they are modular and work well in the kitchen as well as you can freeze stuff in them as well, and they are air tight. Happy cooking.

2021-10-25 21:53:48 +0000 UTCJust as a tip to you, the Complete Make-Ahead Cookbook by America's Test Kitchen is a really great resource if you are wanting to prepare meals ahead of time that can be "finished" rather quickly. A favorite recipe of mine from that book is the Tamale Pie with Cornbread Topping. It can be frozen in advance and then baked up in the oven (after removing the foil from under the cornbread, which causes it not to get gooey sitting on top of the other wet pie contents.
