RJ Ramblings

Hey everybody! I'm feeling a lot better this week. Sicks are gone and I'm back to the same old stuff. 

Not a whole lot going on this week really. I've been doing my normal hiking stuff. I'm also trying to run more often and build up to running a 5k at some point. Not even close right now, but I'll get there eventually. We went on a longer hike on Saturday and that was fun. 3.6 miles. Not huge, but the longest hike we've been on so far, I think. Was fun and I felt good afterwards, so probably going to try to go on a longer one this weekend. 

Other than that, I've been reading again. I haven't really read much in a while, comic books or normal books, because a lot of times after I finish spending all day writing or coding, I don't really feel like looking at more text, so I end up watching youtube or something when I'm laying in bed at night. Lately though, I've been bored with everything on YouTube and I've been enjoying reading more. 

For comics, I've really been wanting to read more mystery/detective/noir stuff. Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips are my favorite. I love pretty much everything they make. I read The Ghost in You, which is the 4th book in their Reckless series, and I loved it. That whole series is amazing. The next book comes out later this month, so looking forward to that. Now I've been reading one called Black Kiss that is very sleazy, and pretty okay so far. 

For books, I've been inspired by The Midnight Club, which we've been watching through slowly on Netflix and it's great so far. I've been wanting to read these old 90s teenage horror books like Fear Street and Christopher Pike. I read Chain Letter, and now I'm reading The Midnight Club. They're fun and surprisingly inventive at times. Not high literature, by any means, but they're inspiring me and I've gotten a few ideas for stories just in the last week or so. 

And that's why writers should read. Because, when the books are amazing, they inspire you to write. And even if the books aren't amazing, they inspire you to write. And I do feel like writing. 

There's plenty of story left in Come Home to tell that I'm looking forward to telling. But I'm SO much looking forward to telling the stories that will come after it. Can't wait.
