Weekly Progress : Kyne’s Hilt & Horizon — Greatsword Moveset
Added 2025-09-04 14:00:09 +0000 UTCTL;DR
New MCO moveset in production: Kyne’s Hilt & Horizon. Outdoor = big, sweeping, crowd-control swings. Indoor = tight, thrust-forward work that won’t snag on walls. Aiming for Valhalla Combat compatibility via proper annotations. Early rig fixes done; first idle/locomotion clips recorded. Travel break September 10–19, 2025.
What is “Hilt & Horizon”?
The name describes how the set adapts to space:
Horizon (outdoor): wide arcs and area denial—think greatsword fencing in the spirit of montante (big, readable swings for multi-target control).

Hilt (indoor): compact movement—tighter lines, more thrusts, designed to read well and avoid clipping in narrow rooms.

This switching will be handled with OAR conditions (interior vs. exterior), so you get the right moves automatically.
Compatibility Goals
Built on MCO.
Valhalla Combat: I’ll add the same kind of annotations VC expects (similar approach to Smooth’s releases), so timing, stamina, hit windows, etc. line up cleanly.
OAR: conditional sub-styles (Hilt/Horizon) without player micromanagement.
This Week (Done)
Rig/Skeleton fix: I found a naming issue—Weapon had been exported as WEAPON, Shield as SHIELD, which broke bone orientation in-game. I corrected this locally and verified the fix.
Note: I haven’t uploaded the corrected rig to the blog yet—please keep this in mind if you’re testing my older files.WIP clips: First idle and locomotion animations are in.

Next Up
Finish the remaining locomotions.
Block out the attack chains for both sub-styles:
Horizon: broad, flowing sequences for crowd control.
Hilt: compact patterns with thrust emphasis for tight spaces.
Then iterate on hit-frames and annotation timing to sync with Valhalla Combat logic.
Schedule Note
I’ll be traveling to Turkey from September 10–19, 2025 (JST). That means no mod work during those dates. I’ll resume production right after the trip.

More soon—goal remains the same: make greatsword feel great.
