It isn't an easy journey, but know there's a lot of people out here cheering you on. ( I also wanted to add that, while these episodes are never as 'easy' to listen to as the more light-hearted and goofy ones, I really enjoy them a lot, Dan. You have a very good way with people and getting them to open up and talk with you, it's a talent, and your genuine interest in others always shines through. I am looking forward to your documentary all the more, now.)

2018-11-14 00:20:14 +0000 UTCHeather....I am so sorry that your illness has caused you to not make such great decisions in your life, but you are so smart and you have awesome plans for your future, which I feel can come true if you get therapy you need! There is a woman who was in and out of Danvers State Hospital for a good part of her life....her name was Marie Balter...and you can find films about her on YouTube, and I think her story would be such a great inspiration to you in how she got herself out of the hospital and went on to put herself through harvard and go back to to working as administration at Danvers State and even get married! You can change your life!!!

2018-11-13 14:13:35 +0000 UTCWell thank you Heather for sharing your story with all of us. People are people no matter where you go in life, whether it be a job or different parts of the world. One common behavior you'll often see is gossip. A lot of the time the gossip people conduct in is total BS and they really don't believe or think that way about the person they are gossiping about. It's not about you being bipolar btw. You're probably like myself, someone who doesn't use gossip as a form of social interaction, conversation. So it's hard to sometimes understand that just because we think a certain way doesn't mean that others do. So it's hard to deal with that. However like Dan said, you can't be paranoid about it. People live in bubbles, whether it be their job, community, town/city, etc and they don't see the larger picture. So their whole reality and the world becomes that bubble for them. They don't see beyond it, there are roughly 9 billion people out there! So the next time you feel that way Heather, just remind yourself that these people are nobodies, nothing, to that larger reality. Someone might be the president or director of a factory in some town somewhere but the minute they leave that bubble and step into the larger world they are nobody! It reminds me of a song by Coldplay with the following lyrics, "You might be a big fish In a little pond Doesn't mean you've won 'Cause a long may come A bigger one." So the next time you feel that people are against you remind yourself that outside of their protective bubble they are a total loser next to someone else. Also try not to sabotage your own life due to past experiences. I myself have lived and continue to live a lonely life. I am reclusive but not by choice, more due to negative circumstances. However, I refuse to lose hope that one day I will meet others and make connections. So that's why it's important that you don't close yourself off. And when you are single and by yourself, no friends, it makes you a bigger target for some individuals. It's NOT YOU the problem btw. It's just the law of the jungle, animals gang up in packs. It's part of the hierarchy structure. So they never gang up on another pack, only the lone animal out on their own and fending for themselves. Eventually when the day comes you are no longer alone and have your own pack you will see how others will back off you more and more as time goes by. Look at it like a wrestling tag team. If you don't have your partner/s to tag into the ring you'll definitely be ganged up on. So be strong, be a soldier and march on. Just remind yourself that it's your situation and NOT YOU that is the problem. As for you Dan mentioning how sometimes you will read a comment and depending on your mood you may interpret it the wrong way. Yes, that's true for anyone. Always be careful with communication when it's in writing. It's not the same as in person where we can hear the tone of voice and view the body language of the person communicating. Written words can easily be misinterpreted due to missing that human connection. The content can be taken the wrong way due to our state of mind within the moment. Also the same rule applies to conversation over the phone as well. So that was good that you brought up that point, because not everyone is aware of that.

Heather, well done I really appreciated your words as I too have bi polar and have found the paranoia hard to fight against. You have been an amazing high flyer in your life - always remember to breathe
