I choose to believe HG has had at least one hilarious mind-control misunderstanding when a target completely misheard or misinterpreted their orders. Ortega's relationship with pain meds doesn't sound like addiction to me, just normal dependence? Sure, there are lifestyle adjustments they could make to mitigate the pain somewhat, but the root of the problem is that they have incurable chronic pain and need to treat it somehow. Aaah Re-genes dealing with death and getting rebooted!! Now I'm just so sad! Also wow! Sky-raider is Chen's old buddy! And yay we might get to befriend Ace! It will be interesting to see what happens in book 3
