I hope you guys enjoy it and find it helpful ☺️ so grab a blanket and a snack or draw along with me! 💛

Thanks so much!! This is incredibly helpful

MAE @sketchbook_joy

I recently just became a patron of yours and for the longest time, I couldn't even figure out how you turned your sketch to RED. It makes SO much sense now! Thanks for sharing!

The music on the tutorial is from the novela Paginas Da Vida right? Do you speak Portuguese? I love that novelas 💕 amazing tutorial 😊 I like painting from grayscale too but my process usually takes too long and gets complicated

Snowdrops

I love this! I've been struggling with rendering and shading, so I'm really going to focus on greyscale now.

Rachel

Thankyou so much, your tutorials have brought my art to another level!

Will you add link to this post to easy access post? 😘😘😘

I’ve seen and done it both ways were the grey scale is the first layer set to normal, or the flat layer is the first layer set to normal. Is there a specific reason why you prefer the grey scale to be the first layer instead of the one set to multiply?

Yay I’m so happy you enjoyed it!! 😍 I definitely get what you mean, when I first started out I felt way more comfortable with grayscale and so this method really helped me with coloring! ☺️ It’s cool though because after doing it for so long, I feel much more confident going straight to color if I feel like it 😌 I think this method helps with getting used to colors in a more comfortable way! 💛

Lydia Elaine

Haha I know what you mean! 🙈 For a while I felt like I wasn’t doing something right because I liked painting in grayscale first rather than jumping straight to color like I see so many other artists doing, but I’ve learned it’s a method used a lot in the industry which is super cool to think about! 😍

Lydia Elaine

I totally know that feeling! Except for me, Photoshop feels difficult! 😅 I’m so happy you enjoyed the tutorial, have fun!! 💛✨

Lydia Elaine

I’m so so happy to hear that!! 😍 Totally know what you mean about stalling colors, I definitely like to experiment so this method helps my process a lot too! 🥰

Lydia Elaine

I’m so happy you enjoy the content! 🥰 Thank you so so much for your kind and encouraging words, that means the world to me! ☺️💛💛

Used to paint grayscale in photoshop but it’s been so hard in procreate, thank you for this video, I feel encouraged to give it another go!

TheOracularPig

Lydia! This is a game-changer to me! So many sketches were abandoned by me because when I tried to shad after colouring they looked so crappy 😄 this is amazing and I can really do some stalling with choosing colours now 😅

MJ

I've been wanting to try this technique so this is perfect! I also wanted to say that I'm a new patron and I am just stunned by all of your content. Just in the short time I've been following your tutorials, so many things have finally clicked in my brain and I'm learning SO much. You're an excellent teacher. Thank you for the time and dedication you put into your content ❤️

This is an amazing, informative tutorial Lydia! I appreciate your hard work omg!!! This is a technique I've been using in my work for years now, and I'm so happy to see other artists using this, because I always thought it was a bit weird. Amazing video, <33333

Thank you so much for this tutorial ❤️❤️❤️. I learned soooo much! In general I always have a hard time if I go straight to colors and loose a bit of contrast. I really wanted to try this technique because I am more comfortable with grayscale at the moment but I don’t want to do only grey paintings 😂 I’ll definitely try that on my next colored illustration! Thank you so much for your hard work and great explanations ❤️❤️❤️
