Tenth Anniversary !
Added 2024-11-20 02:19:54 +0000 UTCNovember 20th, 2014 I published the Macintosh SE video as the first in a potential series of documentaries on Macintosh computer models. One motivation was to justify a collection that I had been building since 2004. Another reason was that there were very few videos on old Macintosh computers... at least very few that I found helpful. I figured I should start with the first Macintosh my family owned, and that was a Macintosh SE, purchased just before Apple released the SE/30... not that we could have afforded that!
I was proud of my video, and it still fascinated me that I could put videos out there, available to the world. As a result, most of the first 100 views on that video were probably me, plus a handful of curious viewers who had watched my previous Macintosh repair videos. I kept making the series of videos because I enjoyed making them and watching them. But ultimately videos are nothing without an audience, and an audience started to form after a few years. I liked the idea that someone else might watch them and discover them informative and entertaining. Thanks to everyone who is reading this for making this 10-year effort worthwhile.
In celebration, I fire up the Macintosh SE. The Rodime Hard Drive makes the familiar melodic start-up noises. The original soldered-in Varta clock battery still holds the time after 35 years and counting. The OS is still the stock system 6.0.2. Back then the SE rescued me from a clunky old typewriter. Today it marks the beginning of a decades-long exploration of Macintosh computing.
I’ve produced 8 1/2 hours of public content in the form of 18 videos in the Macintosh Collector Series (Yeah, I’m counting the Hamburger Helper video, I don’t care what anyone says). That's a lot of scripted content, especially if you think of someone binge-watching it.
As for the future, I've got a couple videos in the works. One pushes the boundaries of the channel and another in the same theme as the previous videos. I may pause billing next month while I work on those projects, but I will still be posting here when I have updates or something to complain about.
I'm interested to know which video in the series is your personal favourite, since this is one place that everyone is familiar with the videos (... I would hope).

Sounds like and interesting set of Macs that you acquired. That will be fun looking into those machines. Thanks for sending your channel info and the invite to stop-by! I'll check it out.

2024-11-28 05:47:14 +0000 UTCI live about 60 miles south of Montreal, in the Plattsburgh (NY) area, so if you are ever down here, be sure to give me a heads up and stop by. Here is the link to my YouTube: https://youtube.com/@unwrappedlegacymediacomput7218?si=RoOAXZd-XwoVDnu_ Yesterday I picked up an LC3, two 7200's, and a 7600, two of which had highly sought after Sonnet upgrades. Can't wait to see if they work or not.

2024-11-25 13:07:37 +0000 UTCHello Daniel. Thanks for checking in on my Patreon. Another vote for the 9500 video. It's performing fairly well! If you are on Youtube, you'll have to direct me to your channel. As for me, I am living near Sarnia, Ontario. More details in my 'Welcome video' here on Patreon. :) Good to hear from you and best of luck on the 649!

2024-11-25 05:45:05 +0000 UTCA fellow content creator but have been on extended hiatus do to moves. Never realized you had a Patreon until today, so here I am. Will become a paying subscriber after the new year (or if I hit the 649). I voted on the Power Mac 9500, although the ANS 500 is a very close second. I'm currently looking for a 9500 because an ANS is unobtainable unless I do hit the lottery... Hope to see a new video from you soon. :) Which part of Canada are you in?

2024-11-24 00:35:52 +0000 UTCI appreciate you mentioning the G4 Cube video for it's completeness .. wait a minute... I didn't even open it up!

2024-11-23 17:19:09 +0000 UTCYou're taking this vote pretty seriously. You'll have to let me know which one ended up winning, Charles. :)

2024-11-23 17:12:16 +0000 UTCThank you, ReddestDream! I'm realizing that the nice thing about retro videos is that they are mostly future-proof. I actually had severe doubts about the 9500 video before I posted it, thinking it was not even close to the previous G4 video in entertainment value.

2024-11-23 17:08:24 +0000 UTCCongratulations on 10 years to you, too! It does not seem like that long. Glad you liked the most recent. At least I'm still moving in the right direction.

2024-11-23 08:48:54 +0000 UTCThanks for sharing your thoughts, Gabe! I'm happy you liked the most recent release the best. I'll have to stretch that museum footage even further!

2024-11-23 03:09:25 +0000 UTCGlad you watched the Universal Studios videos, too. If you told me at the time that 1/2 million people would watch it someday, I would not have believed it (or understood how it would be possible, unless they 'showed it on the television'). I always like to throw music in, though generally strange stuff that won't get flagged by YouTube, but that's always the best stuff. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts!

2024-11-23 02:49:12 +0000 UTCYour abstention is recognized, Jon. Interesting observation about the long form videos. I didn't really realize that, myself. Thanks1

2024-11-23 02:45:46 +0000 UTCAnd another entry: G4 Cube because of its completeness!

2024-11-20 20:08:25 +0000 UTCAbstained from voting for the ANS500 video, and chose 9500 (though still biased due to my love of that machine). The 9500 was among the first "long form (25+ mins)" vids which contain multiple topics (clones/PowerComputing, Copland/search for new OS) plus tons of 65scribe memes.

2024-11-20 17:01:49 +0000 UTCOh man. The LC video! It’s so good too! I love the commentary on the clips from the Apple Keynote video in that one too. And the ending.

2024-11-20 13:14:19 +0000 UTCBecause of all the humor and inside jokes it is so hard to choose. Absolute favorite: The PowerMac G4, I discovered your channel because of it. Runner ups: 512K (RIP Joseph Samuels) LC (Dont copy that floppy) Favorite joke/running gag: Mac Pro 2037 Keep up the great work! You are unique. Congrats on the decade of 65 Scribe!

2024-11-20 11:54:10 +0000 UTCAbsolutely impossible to pick just one... except the 8100 video with the 1984 theme just feels so well thought out and put together. It's very well written. I really like the redo of the 6100 video though. The damned Ontario carpet supermarket jingle is so catchy. And that weird video in the 9500 is super catchy too. So I do like that video for containing that video (I like that you posted that weird video to the Patreon)! I think that I learned about "I think we're a clone now" from watching your videos too (specifically this video) and it's so dang catchy too. Gosh I never thought about how much catchy music is in your videos until now. Love the behind the scenes at Universal Studios video as well. I believe my comment on that video says that you've basically preserved an amazing piece of history.

2024-11-20 05:34:44 +0000 UTCI'm rewatching to figure out which one to vote for. The Macintosh 512K is in the lead at the moment.

2024-11-20 05:08:27 +0000 UTCThe G4 Cube flick is witty and well edited. Every time I come to the Mac Pro (early 2037), I crack up at "gimme ya money!"

2024-11-20 04:36:40 +0000 UTCIt’s impossible to pick just 1! There’s a video for every mood and season.

2024-11-20 03:59:27 +0000 UTCEvery video is fantastic in its own right, but the iterative improvements make the PowerMac G5 video an excellent watch! Hard to believe it’s been that long since the SE video came out. Here’s to the next decade of oil museum tape releases!!!

2024-11-20 02:49:03 +0000 UTCI had to go with the 9500 video for its solid history/backstory along with the characteristic snark and humor and just like coincidental things that happen during repair, e.g., “That may have been the last cool thing Microsoft ever did.” “What music video came with the Mac OS?” “COMPUTER MALFUNCTION” Elf Bowling, and, who could forget, “HAVE A GREAT SUMMER VACATION AND DON’T BE LATE FOR SCHOOL NEXT YEAR! DAMN!” Almost knocked me out of my chair! 🤣 Happy Anniversary! 😃

2024-11-20 02:47:02 +0000 UTCI just recently celebrated 10 years myself, it's quite a feeling to realize you've stuck with something so long that such a long period of time has passed without you even thinking about it. As for my vote, it had to go to the G5 because it's the most well produced video so far, though it was a tough choice between it and the 9500.

2024-11-20 02:45:58 +0000 UTCGoing with the 8100 video thanks to the excellent backstory on Cognac / Piltdown / Tesseract. Network Server a close second. But feeling motivated by this poll to do YA complete rewatch… Happy Anniversary!
