Here is the thread where you can ask me things you're wondering about. Questions will be answered at the end of the month in a recording with a text transcript to go along with that.
I do have a new little disclaimer to add this time. I really appreciate all the help that's been contributed in prior threads, but please don't reply to other people's questions even if you know the answer.
The fun of joining a Q&A is that the developer can give a direct response to you and that everyone else also gets to hear/see the answer in the end of the month post. Having another player resolve the question in the comments right here might not be what the asker was hoping for. This thread is more about having a good time rather than looking for an immediate response to an important question. And if you do have a question you want to hear about right away, it's best to ask in some other thread or to message me directly. Thanks everybody!
Now here's two guidelines for what can actually be submitted for these Q&As;
1. I'm afraid questions about what scenes/choices Our Life: Now & Forever will include aren't answerable right now. Most of the details are decided as the game is created and currently I'm only writing the prologue of Step 1. So, I can't answer questions relating to what for sure will or won't happen past that point. I do know some things coming later, but only a small fraction of the whole game.
2. And the questions can't be about more serious/potentially upsetting topics because I don't want those listening to suddenly be surprised with something they might not have been prepared for/want to be confronted with.

I'm sorry, after recording I realized that I missed this question! I'll answer it in a comment though. If there was a side character DLC it would be for Renee Murray. I'm not sure we'd be able to make that, though. We'll have to see how things go in the future.

2023-03-19 00:56:54 +0000 UTCHi, so I can sort of answer the second one, (but it's always best to wait for a real answer, aha) so as far as length, there's no telling how it will come out in regards to play time, but it is definitely a LOT longer than the first game work-wise due to all the coding, branching, assets, etc. that will be going into it. As for DLC's, I think GB mentioned them being part of the eventual Kickstarter. It's highly likely we'll have them, but there's no telling how many just yet.

Baxter is in-between Derek and Cove and is at least six foot by the time Step Four rolls around (I may not be correct, though, so definitely wait on the official answer! He is definitely taller than Derek, though). So an MC would have to be a little bit on the taller side for a person to tower over Baxter, aha.

There are non-binary people who deal with dysphoria or simply don't enjoy having sex in that kind of way, and other situations that would impact something like that. It depends on the person. So, the asker is saying they wouldn't want to do something that would make Qiu uncomfortable or feel incongruent with their gender identity, but are curious if they would potentially be open to it.

Or even Baxter's ballroom dancing? Is it more than what you wind up using or just enough. As a writer I am curious, because it's not like you have copious amounts of time to become an instant expert on a subject, but it can be helpful for world and character building, or even just making something more believable.

Though first of all and as usual, thank you for doing these every month! - (OL1) If the MC becomes a celebrity or a famous artist or something, does Baxter follow their career or keep track of their works during the time gap between Step 3 and 4? Or would he rather prefer to distance himself even from that? If that changes anything, I mostly have in mind a MC who - out of respect for boundaries or otherwise - didn't try to initiate contact with Baxter since he wanted to distance himself entirely. Just specifying in case this being the "only" contact with the MC affected things or something. - (OL2) I remember you telling us MC's biological father won't have any relevance in the story. But if that's something you already decided on, I'd love to know the extent of MC's longing for him that we'll be able to set in the game. I was pleasantly surprised by how impactful the related part of the demo was so far, and I'm planning on having a MC that will never stop longing for him, and it probably will be a factor of deterioration for his relationship with his mother. So yeah, basically, will we be able to make it a huge thing for our MC in-game even if the father never appears per se, or will that be mostly up to headcanon? Thanks again, and have a great day!

I enjoyed Pamela and Noelani, but they felt like they stayed the same throughout all Steps in OL1, and ended up kind of flat by the end. I think it would be really nice to have a Moment in OL2 where Opal gets sick and the MC has to choose between staying home and taking care of her or hanging out with Qiu and/or Tamarack and leaving Opal to her own devices, or just Moments that build the relationship between the MC and Opal in general.

Perhaps when the plane took off he sullenly looked out of the first class window as California got smaller and smaller. Or when he got back to his dorm maybe his roomate noticed something different about Baxter, as he denied ever having taken a khaki shirt. Excuse the dramatics, although fun 😄. When writing certain scenes that are meant to tug heartstrings, do you ever tear up or even full on sub at your own writing? This makes me sound so full of myself haha... but sometimes just knowing everything the characters have been through, and as the writer knowing what's more to come, you end up so proud of how far they've come but also feel sorry because there's so much they have to put up with still. A couple good examples from OL I can think of are 1.) "Family" in Step 2, especially the conversation that happens between Elizabeth and MC; and 2.) The Baxter breakup scene. Admittedly that one's extremely fresh in my mind so it hurts more as a reader but I can only imagine how it felt to write.

2023-03-05 19:11:03 +0000 UTCI’ve been kind of curious; I know that we won’t be seeing any 18+ moments in OL2 outside of theoretical patreon exclusives- so if and when something that could turn into an 18+ situation, how will it be handled? With Cove it was easy to chalk it up to him not being ready for something like that, or another reason why the situation wouldn’t allow it, will it be like that for Qui and Tamarak? Or, do the pair have a previously thought out limitation preventing them from going very far, like a sexuality, demisexuality, etc? Thank you (:
