Project W Post: April 2025

Welcome to another Project W Wednesday! We're still talking about the unique physical characteristic of lumulle bodies. I'm not kidding when I say I have a lot of stuff worked out for these little guys, haha.

Lumulle Info Part 4:

Lumulles are highly resistant to slash damage, you really shouldn't even try. And piercing attempts usually only make a small chip in the outermost layer before bouncing off. Coming in with a weapon that cuts is not the right choice if you're confronting a lumulle.

Blunt force trauma is the way, if you want to hurt a lumulle. Having any part of its body crushed inward and damaging the layers below the outer facing one is a serious wound that will take a long time and potentially special treatment to recover from. Depending on how large the effected area is, and how many layers were crunched, it could be compared to broken bones in humans or even organ damage.

In the world of Project W, swordplay is still often taught in human towns. Wars aren't fought with swords, but it's a popular hobby and a sign of high breeding among humans. It's common to see a sheath on someone's belt, though the weapon inside wouldn't be a steel blade but basically a wooden stick. That kind type of sword is less dangerous towards other humans and more harmful to lumulles. It's a very deliberate choice.

Lumulles are immune to many substances that are considered poisonous by humans. No plant can damage a lumulle by touching or consuming it. Lumulles also cannot catch germ-based illnesses like the flu. They don't have a blood stream for a virus to get into. Dirt in general can typically be ignored. Lumulles can pick up a leaf from wherever and eat that without washing it. That makes for a stronger lumulle than having everything it eats be completely sanitized.

However, that does not mean lumulles never have to worry about their health. They need to be very cautious of mold. If a lumulle accidentally grows mold on itself, or eats something with mold on it, or simply breaths in mold spores without realizing it, then the lumulle will become ill. Some other fungi that humans are fine with can be a problem for a lumulle by overgrowing its inner cavern. There are also various lumulle specific conditions and disabilities. There might be a separate post about that someday.

And fun fact alert! The most popular pet among lumulles are snakes (and other reptiles). Lumulles love the shiny scales and beautiful patterns snakes have, their quietness, and the fact that snakes also shed like lumulles do. Plus, lumulles are totally immune to venom and snake bites aren’t strong enough to break through their outer layer, so most varieties of snakes are harmless. Only very large, constricting snakes would be a concern. Lumulles don't own anacondas, haha.

For the snakes, they are comfortable with the warm clay bodies of lumulles and the foliage growing on them, as well as the way lumulles don't smell like an animal. Snakes are calmer towards lumulles than humans. Tragically, humans do not allow highly venomous snake pets in their towns despite lumulles' love for them.

Interesting stuff. As usual, lumulle life is not based around how humans would do things. And though lumulles and humans often live in the same town, we can see it's not one hundred percent in harmony.
