Project W Post: June 2025

Happy Project W Not-Wednesday! It's a double post day. May was too packed for a set of infographics to be made, so even though the month end update happened already I also wanted to share this.

Lumulle Info Part 5:

As described in a prior post, lumulles go through a process where their hardest, outermost layer falls away and a softer underlayer becomes the new outer layer. When that happens, there's a window of time when a lumulle can have their basic body reshaped.

But that is not something a lumulle can do on their own, much like how a doctor can't give themself a face lift. This process requires someone else, one with the proper skills. Any alteration is expensive and difficult to get/maintain. A lumulle doesn’t know for sure when their outer layer will crack, and then they’ve got a limited window to do anything with the softened material. Plus, since the outer layer will inevitably break again, the lumulle will have to keep going in to make sure the design doesn't become misshaped.

Often, lumulles use this aspect of their being to get gender affirming alterations. If a lumulle is going to go through the expense and hassle, it would likely be for something important. In Project W, you play as a lumulle. This feature will allow your character to still present in a clearly femme or masc, way despite lumulles being born without any gendered characteristics.

It’s a delicate process to maintain the proper shape of an alteration until it hardens. So, lumulles who break the mold with their alterations usually only do it if they live in a small settlement where lumulles have time to help with large alterations at any time. Or if they’re particularly wealthy, or have a career based on appearance, like being a performer.

Unfortunately, that does not describe your MC; you won't get to have any really fancy additions to your sprite in-game. But I'm sure players could come up with a lot of cool headcanons/fanwork designs for their lumulle MCs.

Lumulles also have to be aware of others when choosing alterations. If you’re going through a busy city and someone gets hurt because a lumulle has made their body difficult or dangerous to be around, then that lumulle will get in serious trouble.

And remember, a lumulle can only shape inert excess material on top of its base form. It couldn’t have a tail or third arm created and then use that as a new appendage. This process only changes appearance, not the functionality of the body.

Honestly, trying to conceptualize designs of lumulle NPCs is overwhelming because there's just so many amazing possibilities. At least there's plenty of time to keep mulling it over, haha.

It probably wouldn't. But lumulles generally don't shape hair styles into their head. I don't except any characters in the game to have that or for it being an option for the MC. I'm sorry!

Considering the last part of the post, there goes Spikey... I wonder, would spikey 'hair' be considered a dangerous alteration (as in the new outer layer is pushed up to the top of the head, and then shaped into spikes where the hair on a human would be)?

With such a short span until the new outer later hardens, I can imagine the Lumulles Shapers (don't know what the official title, if any, they have) getting a bit swamped, esp. if there's quite a few coming to be shaped at the same time. Imagine an accident involving whatever transportation people of their world uses, with the outer layers cracking off at the same time.... Every Lumulle quickly looks at each other, with the same look of 'Uh oh, better make a dash for the nearest Shaper! First come, first serve and all that!'
