WITH A VENGEANCE — Anya seeks vengeance for a wronged college girl, and her spell ends in the death of several frat boys. As Anya reconsiders her actions, Buffy realizes she has to take her stand as the slayer against Anya, much to the chagrin of Xander. Willow re-enrolls at UC Sunnydale and tries to find a more peaceful solution to the Anya situation.

It's the Russian Revolution of 1905, also known as the First Russian Revolution. She was perfect as comic relief but also had such depth and heaviness when given the material and Emma Caulfield chewed it all up without ever dropping the ball

2025-11-28 16:15:42 +0000 UTCI don't know if this has been confirmed by anyone either (or at least as far as I know), but D'Hoffryn's reference to "Lloyd" having a sketch on his wall of Willow killing Warren, sort of became fanlore that 'Lloyd' was the Scorpion demon in the cave when Spike went to get his soul. If you watch Spike's initial scene in the cave in 6-20, when he's looking at the pictures on the cave walls, there's one drawing of someone with their mouth sewn shut ala Warren after Willow does the same to him. So there's a Scorpion demon with the power to give a Vampire their soul back, after said Vampire has completed a bunch of trials and challenges, and his name might be Lloyd. :D

D'Hoffryn's cold viciousness in this episode is a side we didn't really see of him before, and it was a great reminder that, whilst he's generally come across as witty and affable, he is someone you underestimate at your own, and other's, peril. Notice when he says "Hold him back Slayer" Buffy actually complies, a small gesture that shows her ability to scope a situation in rapid time and make an instant decision regarding potential threat levels of an adversary (plus of course her protecting Xander, and likely being slightly relieved that she didn't have to kill Anya after D'Hofftyn showed up. Love that we got back story on Anya's pre demon (first time around at least) mortal life as well, plus a glimpse into her pre-Scoobies life as a vengeance demon (definitely an episode that was long overdue).

I didn’t see it when I was younger, I wanted to rush along to the main S7 watch but I love it more & more with rewatches
