A KISS IS STILL A KISS — Spike's chip is malfunctioning, prompting to Buffy to search for a way to fix it. Meanwhile, a kiss with Kennedy turns Willow into Warren, and Kennedy races to help Willow find a solution before she becomes Warren permanently. Giles takes the rest of the potentials on a quest in the desert, while Xander and the others get a call from England, which leads them to believe Giles may not be Giles.

Not a fan of the Kennedy/Willow thing, but Willow turning into Warren and exploring her grief and guilt that way was very powerful. I feel like it was cathartic for the audience to grieve with her and have Tara be acknowledged.

She could have been a great character, but nooo Joss had to go and write dialogue for her like "Get them drunk and see if they come onto you'. Let me repeat that a little louder for the people up the back...ahem, "GET THEM DRUNK AND SEE IF THEY COME ONTO YOU", ah that is called sexual assault/r*pe. Also the way she insults Willow's interests, and lies and manipulates her into a date in the first place. WTAF? And yes it absolutely does bother me that they didn't ever address Willow assaulting Tara last season, but at least Willow as a character didn't come out the script gate already sounding and acting like a freaking predator. If Kennedy was a male character I think a lot of people would find her hella problematic in terms of her words and behaviour; the character being female shouldn't change that. Plus the hugely problematic side of the whole thing being played like a flirty meet cute, complete with 'she rescues the damsel and they get a happy moment' ending, which completely ignores toxic attitudes and behaviours that actually do exist in the Queer community. Pro Tip (Joss Whedon I'm looking at you) emotional manipulation, coercion, sexual harrassment, and quips about removing someone's ability to give informed consent aren't really signs of a successful date or bode well for future relationship prosepcts. Matter of fact if you're on a date with someone who's throwing up that many red flags, you should probably run, like immediately.

2025-12-27 05:00:37 +0000 UTCI was so happy when this episode dropped and finally put us at ease that Giles wasn’t the First.. it may not stand out on a first watch but I used to record Buffy episodes every week on tv and then re-watch them at least once or twice while I waited for the next episodes, so I was able to pick up on a lot of the hints over the seasons.. I wasn’t sure if Giles had been killed in episode 8 but I did start to notice that they never explained what happened or showed him touching anything, especially at the beginning of this episode when he told Dawn to grab the notebook and they made a point to say that he couldn’t drive the car.. I was so worried 🫣🫣
