2025-11-14 14:27:40 +0000 UTCI'm late, but I'll add on to the fact that show is both more faithful to the books than the movie and less at the same time! The movie is more faithful when it comes to visuals and aesthetics and getting the overall plot done. But the show, despite changing the time period of the books, the races of major characters and thus their backgrounds, and adding on an entire new storyline, the show manages to hit all the details and in and outs of the characters themselves that the movie only barely touched the surface of. Another thing that elevates the show in my eyes is the fact that show is able to commit to what the original book and movie could only imply or flirt with the concept of and that's the queer dynamic between Louis and Lestat. The 1st book was written in the 70s and Anne Rice always intended for them to be romantic but it was more of a read between the lines kinda thing and the movie followed suit with lots of tension but not anything concrete. The show went all in and I love it. A fair amount of the more flowery dialogue does come straight from the books and the episode titles in particular are direct references to the book/movie. But the show writers are definitely pulling their weight and contributing writing just as a beautiful as the source material and I think that's part of what makes this such a successful adaptation. Jacob Anderson is a STAR and he brought Louis to life in a way no one else has been able to do. I don't know if you're familiar with Game of Thrones, but Jacob plays Grey Worm in that series which is where most people are familiar with him from, but GOT truly wasn't able to utilize his skills the way this show has. The confession scene is so beautiful it blows my mind that this show has yet to win any awards or even get nominated. No spoilers, but since you mentioned seeing it, the promo for the Lestat show you were seeing is indeed for Season 3 of this show! It's just being called The Vampire Lestat because that's the 2nd book in the Vampire Chronicles series.

2025-11-14 14:13:01 +0000 UTCIt’s been a long time since I watched a full episode & almost forgot what a masterpiece the show is. So much passion and care was put into every detail and I’m glad you can see that. The show both is and isn’t more like the book than the film lol. The show fast forwarded the time period and changed Louis’ race and occupation. But it was a great choice, and executed flawlessly. Some of the dialogue and narration does come straight from the book, and all the episode titles are from the book. It speaks to the show’s writing team that they were able to blend Anne Rice’s words into their own scripts and maintain the same tone of storytelling. It’s such a pleasure watching Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson embody these characters. They’re phenomenal actors. And it was fun seeing you getting hooked on the show the way all the fans were. Here for the journey!
