Under the Cursed Moon - CH - 69

Ever since Teddy became a Lycan, his connection to the world around him had changed dramatically. The whispers of the forest were clearer, the scents of the earth sharper, and the wind against his fur felt like a second skin. Unlike his previous werewolf transformation, which would have been painful and sporadic without his mother's potions, his new form was fluid, controlled, and instinctive. It was no longer a curse but a gift, a gift that allowed him to embrace the wild nature within him without fear of losing control.

Spending time with the native shapeshifter clan quickly became a part of Teddy’s daily routine. He was welcomed with open arms, especially by Seth, who was completely fascinated by Teddy’s unique ability. Unlike the Quileute shapeshifters, who had to strip before transforming to avoid shredding their clothes, Teddy’s transformation was seamless. His clothes simply disappeared when he shifted into his wolf form and reappeared when he returned to human form. It was a small detail, but it granted Teddy a sense of freedom that the others envied.

Seth and Teddy often ran through the dense forests surrounding Forks, their paws kicking up dirt and fallen leaves as they raced each other through the trees. The other shapeshifters joined in at times, marveling at how Teddy moved with effortless grace, his enhanced speed and power making him a formidable runner. Though he was not part of their pack, he was accepted as one of their own, a unique bridge between lycans and shapeshifters.

The elders of the tribe took an interest in Teddy as well. They saw in him something rare—a being who had transformed willingly, without the curse or burden that most carried. They invited him to learn their ways, to understand the ancient traditions that governed the shapeshifters and the spirits of the land. Teddy, eager to learn, spent hours listening to their stories, absorbing their wisdom as he tried to find his place in this new life.

Despite his joy in running as a wolf, Teddy still struggled with one thing—his inability to fully control his wolf like his parents. He had mastered his hybrid form, the powerful blend of human and beast. He watched Seth and the others shift effortlessly, their forms sleek and majestic, and a deep yearning settled within him. It was a reminder that, despite his immense power, he was still different.

Harry and Hermione reassured him that he is young and have all the time in the world to master his powers. They encouraged him to embrace what he had rather than mourn what he lacked. Leah, who had always been more reserved with Teddy, admitted that she too had struggled with her transformation at first. It was something that required not just physical control but an emotional understanding of oneself.

Teddy took their words to heart, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing. He would keep training, keep pushing himself, until he found that final piece of himself. Until then, he would run with the pack, learn from the elders, and embrace the wild freedom that came with being a Lycan.

The first time Teddy went to the Cullen household after his transformation into a Lycan was an intense and nerve-wracking experience. Despite his training and mental discipline, his instincts flared the moment he stepped into their home. The presence of vampires triggered an overwhelming, primal reaction deep within him. His fangs elongated involuntarily, his nails extended into sharp claws, and a deep, guttural growl rumbled from his chest. His muscles tensed, and his golden eyes locked onto the Cullens, pupils narrowing into slits.

The Cullens, though accustomed to supernatural creatures, instinctively took a step back. Carlisle, ever the calm leader, raised a hand to signal restraint, but even Emmett, who prided himself on his strength, looked wary. Jasper immediately felt the surge of aggression emanating from Teddy and struggled to suppress the rising tension in the room. Edward, reading Teddy’s turbulent thoughts, understood that this was not a conscious attack but an instinctual reaction.

Leah and Harry, standing at Teddy’s side, moved quickly. Leah placed a firm hand on Teddy’s shoulder, her grip reassuring yet strong. “Breathe, Teddy,” she commanded, her voice steady. “You control it, not the other way around.”

Teddy clenched his jaw, trying to suppress the instinct, but it was a battle raging within. The scent of the vampires, their unnatural stillness, and the deep-seated predator-prey relationship between Lycans and Vampires made it nearly impossible for him to fight back the surge of aggression.

Then, a small, warm hand touched his cheek.

Renesmee.

The moment her tiny fingers connected with his skin, a wave of emotions and memories flooded his mind—not his own, but hers. He saw himself through her eyes, a friend, a protector, someone she cared for deeply. There was no fear in her touch, only trust and warmth. The growl in his throat died, and his claws retracted. His breathing slowed, his racing heartbeat steadied. His muscles, once coiled tight like a spring, began to relax. The wolf inside him stilled, retreating slightly, acknowledging Renesmee’s touch as something safe, something comforting.

The room remained silent for a few tense moments before Carlisle spoke, his voice filled with cautious relief. “Fascinating. It seems Renesmee has an effect on you, Teddy.”

Teddy swallowed hard, looking down at the half-vampire girl who smiled up at him. He nodded slowly, his voice still a little shaky. “Yeah… she does.”

Bella, standing protectively beside Renesmee, let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding. “I guess that means you two are going to be inseparable now,” she said, half amused, half wary.

Teddy gave a small, sheepish grin, running a hand through his now slightly wilder hair. “Could be worse,” he muttered, glancing at Renesmee, who beamed back at him.

Edward, who had been reading the whole situation, looked thoughtful. “This bond… it might be deeper than we think.”

Harry placed a reassuring hand on Teddy’s back. “We’ll figure it out together,” he said. “For now, let’s just take things one step at a time.”

The visit continued with careful optimism, but the first hurdle had been crossed. Teddy had found an anchor in Renesmee, a connection that would help him navigate his new life as a Lycan.

It is a full moon. The Black Mansion was filled with guests—Harry, Hermione, Teddy, and Leah hosted a gathering that included the Cullens and the entire shapeshifter pack. It was a rare occasion where everyone set aside their differences to strengthen their bonds and enjoy a night of camaraderie without formalities.

Jacob had been away for some time on a personal mission, but he returned that night with urgent news.

“There are vampires causing trouble in Seattle,” he announced, his voice heavy with concern. “They’re not like the Cullens. They’re reckless, attacking humans openly. If we don’t act soon, it could draw unwanted attention from the people.”

The room fell into a tense silence. Everyone knew what was at stake. The Volturi, the ruling class of vampires, would not tolerate breaches of secrecy. If they got involved, it would lead to a bloodbath, one that would threaten not just the vampires but the entire supernatural community in the area.

Emmett leaned forward, his golden eyes sharp. “Then we deal with them before the Volturi catch wind of this.”

The pack, the Cullens, and the Blacks exchanged glances, all in agreement. The meeting that started as a simple gathering had now turned into a war council.

Teddy sat quietly in the play area of the Black Mansion grounds, his eyes locked onto the glowing moon above. The soft silver light bathed everything in a peaceful glow, illuminating the playground designed especially for him and Renesmee. It had been a lifetime since he had the luxury of simply staring at the moon, truly seeing it. He had always been forced to look away, overwhelmed by its pull when he was a werewolf.

Renesmee, sensing his deep thoughts, placed a small hand on his arm, her golden-brown eyes searching his face. Without speaking, she reached into his mind with her unique ability, asking telepathically, *What are you thinking, Teddy?*

Teddy let out a soft breath, his expression unreadable for a moment before a small, almost wistful smile graced his lips. *It's the first time I've ever really seen the moon,* he responded in his thoughts. *Not just the light of it. Not just the pull of it. But the real thing.*

Renesmee tilted her head, intrigued. *What do you mean?*

Teddy’s fingers curled slightly into the soft grass beneath him as he searched for the words. *When I was a werewolf, I never actually saw the moon. Every time I looked up, all I could see was white light, too blinding, too painful. The moment it touched my skin, the transformation took over. I couldn’t enjoy the night sky. I couldn’t admire the stars or the way the moonlight made the world feel so… calm.* He turned his gaze back to the sky, his voice carrying a quiet reverence. *But now? Now I can see it. I can just sit here and look at it for as long as I want.*

Renesmee considered this, sitting beside him with her legs tucked under her. *Does it feel different now?* she asked, brushing a strand of her auburn curls behind her ear.

Teddy nodded slowly. *Yeah. It feels like I’m free in a way I never knew I wasn’t before. Like I was always running, always hiding from something, even when I didn’t realize it.*

Renesmee reached out again, this time holding his hand in a silent show of understanding. Though she was different—half-vampire, half-human—she knew what it was like to feel apart from the world, to experience something no one else could truly understand.

Teddy squeezed her hand gently, grateful for her presence. For the first time in his life, he wasn’t afraid of the night. He wasn’t controlled by it. He was simply a boy, staring up at the moon, enjoying the beauty of it like everyone else.

Teddy and Renesmee ran towards the house, giggling and chatting as they made their way inside. Hermione followed behind them with a satisfied smile, glad that the two were getting along so well.

In the kitchen, the delicious aroma of freshly prepared food filled the air. Harry was at the stove, expertly flipping pieces of roasted meat in a pan, while Leah was setting the table with precision. Hermione noticed that even Esme had joined them in the kitchen, assisting in plating the dishes.

Teddy climbed onto his usual seat, his appetite sharpened by the day’s exertions, while Renesmee curiously observed the variety of dishes on the table. There were grilled meats, roasted vegetables, and freshly baked bread.

Renesmee hesitated for a moment, glancing toward her mother, Bella, who had taken a seat beside Edward at the far end of the table. Bella still wasn’t completely comfortable with the idea of Renesmee consuming human food, as the Cullens had assumed she would only require blood for sustenance. But Hermione, ever the scholar, had discovered otherwise.

"Try this, Renesmee," Hermione encouraged gently, passing her a plate of mashed potatoes and grilled chicken. "You liked it last time."

Renesmee looked at the food with slight skepticism but eventually picked up her fork and took a bite. Her eyes widened in pleasant surprise.

"It's good!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with delight.

Teddy grinned at her. "Told you human food is great. You're missing out if you only drink blood."

Edward, who had been silent throughout, observed the scene with interest. It was fascinating to see his daughter engage in a habit that none of them could relate to. Carlisle, standing by the counter, nodded in approval. "This changes many things. If Renesmee can survive on human food, it means she can live more normally among humans than we originally thought."

Bella, though initially uncertain, seemed relieved. "I just never imagined she could have a choice," she admitted. "I thought she was like us."

Hermione smiled. "Renesmee is unique. She bridges the gap between two worlds. This is just another way she proves that she doesn’t belong to only one side."

Harry placed a large plate of food in front of Teddy and ruffled his hair. "Eat up, champ. You too, Renesmee. Growing kids need their strength."

As the dinner continued, Renesmee enjoyed her meal alongside Teddy, an innocent moment of normalcy in their otherwise extraordinary lives. The atmosphere in the Black Mansion that night was warm, filled with laughter, discovery, and the comforting sense of family.
