Mastering the Elements - Chapter - 32

Naruto bolted upright from his futon, his heart pounding with excitement. He had heard it from the gatekeepers on his way back from training—Uncle Harry was back!
His bare feet thudded against the wooden floor as he dashed through the hallway, bursting into the living room where Mikoto was folding laundry.
"Mom! Is it true?" Naruto panted, eyes wide with hope.
Mikoto looked up, a soft smile on her face. "Yes, Naruto. Your Uncle Harry's back."
"Yes!" Naruto whooped, spinning on his heels and sprinting out the door before Mikoto could remind him to wear his sandals.
He didn’t have to look far. Sitting cross-legged in the garden, a steaming cup of tea in hand, was Harry. His cloak had been discarded, and he seemed to be enjoying the sight of the blooming flowers swaying gently in the breeze.
"Uncle Harry!" Naruto shouted, launching himself across the yard.
Harry barely had time to put down his tea before Naruto collided with him, arms wrapped tightly around his waist.
"Whoa, Naruto!" Harry chuckled, ruffling the boy's unruly blond hair. "You’ve grown taller."
"You're back!" Naruto grinned, pulling away to look at him. "I missed you so much! I’ve got so much to show you!"
Harry smiled warmly. "I’m glad to see you too. You’ve been training hard?"
Naruto nodded vigorously. "Yeah! Pervy Sage’s been teaching me all kinds of stuff. You won’t believe it! I can summon toads now. Big ones! And I’m learning a super cool jutsu called Rasengan!"
Harry raised an eyebrow, curious. "Rasengan? That’s quite advanced. Show me."
Naruto puffed out his chest proudly. "I’m still learning it, but Pervy Sage said my dad—the Fourth Hokage—created it! Isn’t that awesome?"
Harry’s smile softened. "Yes, it is. Minato was a brilliant man. I knew him… not personally, but I knew of him."
Naruto’s eyes widened. "Really?! You never told me that!"
Harry gave a small shrug. "It didn’t seem relevant at the time. You’re your own person, Naruto. Your father was great, but you’re going to be even greater."
Naruto's cheeks flushed with pride. "Wait till you see this!"
He stepped back, forming a hand sign. His chakra flared as he focused intently. A small, swirling sphere of blue energy began to form in his palm, flickering unsteadily.
Harry watched with interest, noting the concentrated effort on the boy’s face.
"Come on… come on!" Naruto grunted, but the sphere fizzled out with a small pop.
Naruto let out a frustrated huff. "Argh! It’s so hard! Pervy Sage makes it look so easy."
Harry crouched down, placing a reassuring hand on Naruto’s shoulder. "Jutsu mastery takes time. Your father didn’t create that technique overnight. You’ll get it. Just keep practicing."
Naruto’s face lit up. "Yeah, you’re right! I’ll make it perfect!"
Then, as if remembering something, Naruto's eyes widened. "Oh! You know what else? I can summon toads now! Let me show you!"
Before Harry could respond, Naruto bit his thumb, smeared blood on his palm, and slammed it onto the ground. "Summoning Jutsu!"
A puff of smoke appeared, and when it cleared, a tiny orange toad with blue markings sat there, looking annoyed.
"Naruto! You again?" the toad croaked. "You know you shouldn’t summon me for nothing!"
Naruto rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "Sorry, Gamakichi. I just wanted to show Uncle Harry."
The toad crossed his arms. "Whatever, man. Just don’t make it a habit."
Harry chuckled. "Impressive. You’re summoning toads already. That’s no small feat."
Naruto beamed, scratching Gamakichi’s head. "Yeah! Jiraiya-sensei says that I’m doing great. He said I’m a natural at summoning because I have lots of chakra."
Gamakichi gave a small nod, then looked up at Harry. "Hey, who’s this guy? Never seen you before."
Naruto grinned. "This is my Uncle Harry. He’s awesome! He taught me all kinds of cool stuff."
Harry inclined his head politely. "Nice to meet you, Gamakichi."
"Yeah, yeah. As long as this squirt doesn’t keep dragging me out of my nap, we’re cool," the toad replied before poofing out of existence.
Harry couldn’t help but laugh at the interaction. "You’ve come a long way, Naruto."
Naruto puffed out his chest proudly. "Yeah! Pervy Sage even said that I might be ready to learn some of the Fourth Hokage’s techniques if I keep working hard!"
Harry’s gaze softened, remembering Minato’s legacy. "You’re making your father proud. I’m sure of it."
Naruto’s face turned serious, and he lowered his voice. "Do you think… do you think Dad would’ve liked me?"
Harry’s hand found Naruto’s head, ruffling his hair gently. "He would’ve loved you, Naruto. You’re brave, kind, and determined. You’re everything a father could hope for."
Naruto’s eyes watered a little, and he quickly wiped at his face with his sleeve. "Thanks, Uncle Harry. I promise I’ll keep getting stronger. I’ll become the Hokage one day, just like Dad!"
Harry gave him a proud smile. "I don’t doubt it. But don’t forget—strength alone isn’t what makes a great Hokage. It’s heart, too. You’ve got both."
Mikoto appeared at the doorway, wiping her hands on a towel. "Naruto, stop pestering Harry. He just got back. Let him rest."
Naruto flashed a cheeky grin. "But Mom! I have to show him everything I learned!"
Harry gave Mikoto a grateful look, and she smiled back, shaking her head.
"Let him have his moment," Harry whispered to her as Naruto bounced around excitedly, showing his basic hand-to-hand techniques.
She nodded, joining Harry on the porch while Naruto performed exaggerated combat moves in the yard, his enthusiasm lighting up the entire garden.
As the sky slowly turned shades of amber, the household filled with laughter, training, and stories—finally feeling complete once more.
Jiraiya stretched his arms over his head as he walked back toward the village gates, Naruto’s excited shouts still echoing in his ears. The kid had bolted faster than a startled deer when the gatekeeper mentioned his adoptive father’s return.
“That brat,” Jiraiya muttered with a fond smile. “Can’t blame him, though. Family’s important.”
He had to admit, he was a little curious himself. Harry Potteru. The man had become somewhat of an enigma within the village. A civilian in name but far from ordinary. Healing abilities that even Tsunade couldn’t comprehend, strange techniques, and a son like Itachi who possessed both the Sharingan and the Wood Release. Jiraiya had heard enough tales during his time in the village to know that Harry Potteru was someone worth paying attention to.
As he made his way through the bustling streets, he couldn’t help but feel a slight tinge of caution. He might be a Sannin, one of the strongest shinobi of Konoha, but Harry Potteru was someone different—someone whose power didn’t measured.
He made his way to the Hokage Tower, nodding at familiar faces as he climbed the stairs. When he reached the Hokage’s office, he found the old man hunched over some paperwork, a furrow in his brow.
“Sensei,” Jiraiya called, stepping inside.
Hiruzen looked up, his face softening into a weary smile. “Jiraiya. Come in.”
The Toad Sage closed the door behind him, leaning casually against the wall. “Heard the news. Potteru’s back.”
The Hokage sighed, rubbing his temples. “Yes, he returned earlier today. Along with some rather... unexpected news.”
Jiraiya’s curiosity piqued. “Oh? What kind of news?”
Hiruzen gestured to the side, where a cloth-covered object rested on the floor. With a flick of his hand, he removed the cloth, revealing a severed head. Jiraiya’s eyes widened as recognition hit him.
“Danzo…” he whispered.
“Yes,” Hiruzen replied grimly. “It appears Harry found him. And killed him.”
Jiraiya crossed his arms, his face darkening. “Not that the old bastard didn’t deserve it after all the stunts he pulled, but… Pottaru actually took him down?”
The Hokage nodded. “It seems he did. Apparently, Itachi was with him, but decided to stay behind to complete his training alone.”
Jiraiya raised an eyebrow. “Alone.”
“It was Itachi’s choice. And Harry, despite being unconventional, knows how to handle himself. He trusts his son to make the right decisions.”
“Still,” Jiraiya muttered, rubbing his chin thoughtfully, “I’ve been meaning to meet this Harry guy. I’ve never seen him around.”
Hiruzen chuckled lightly. “You were probably avoiding him because Tsunade took such a liking to his company.”
Jiraiya huffed. “Not like I’m jealous. I just didn’t want to be dragged into another one of their ‘medical breakthroughs’ experiments. But… the kid’s strong. And Naruto’s taken a liking to him. That’s enough to get my attention.”
The old Hokage smiled knowingly. “It would do you good to see them. Naruto has grown in your care, but he still looks up to Harry as a father figure. It’s… good for him.”
Jiraiya sighed. “Yeah. I suppose. Kid needs all the family he can get.” He pushed away from the wall and made his way to the door. “I’ll drop by and see how the family’s doing. And maybe, just maybe, I’ll see what kind of man this Potteru really is.”
Hiruzen nodded, a gleam of amusement in his eyes. “Go easy on him, Jiraiya. You’ll find he’s not as simple as he seems.”
Jiraiya smirked. “I like complicated.”
As he made his way through the village, Jiraiya mulled over the news. Danzo dead. That alone would shake up the council. But the fact that Harry had not only found him but also killed him? That made the man even more intriguing.
Reaching the Pottaru household, he slowed his pace as he heard voices from the garden. Peering around the corner, he spotted Harry seated on a bench, casually sipping tea, while Naruto animatedly demonstrated a move, almost tripping over his own feet in his enthusiasm. Mikoto was laughing softly from the porch, enjoying the show.
Harry looked up first, spotting Jiraiya and giving him a nod. “You must be Jiraiya,” he greeted, his tone polite but slightly amused.
Naruto whipped around, eyes wide. “Pervy Sage! What are you doing here?”
Jiraiya shot him a glare. “It’s Jiraiya-sensei when we’re not training, brat.”
Harry chuckled, gesturing to an empty seat. “Would you like some tea? Or sake?”
Jiraiya raised an eyebrow. “You’ve got sake?”
“I’ve got a lot of things,” Harry replied cryptically, pouring a cup and handing it over.
Jiraiya accepted it, taking a sip. “Not bad.” He glanced at Harry, sizing him up. “You’re not what I expected.”
Harry smirked. “Neither are you. From what I hear, you’re supposed to be some sort of legendary sage, but I keep hearing about your unfortunate hobbies.”
Jiraiya spluttered, nearly choking on his drink. “Hey! I’m a researcher, not a pervert!”
Naruto snorted. “Sure you are.”
Mikoto shook her head fondly. “He’s been saying that since before you were born, Naruto.”
Jiraiya grumbled something unintelligible before finally focusing on Harry. “You really killed Danzo?”
Harry didn’t flinch. “Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because he put a bounty on my son’s head,” Harry replied, voice colder than ice. “And tried to kidnap Naruto.”
Jiraiya’s expression darkened. “That old snake...”
Harry’s green eyes hardened. “Anyone who threatens my family doesn’t get a second chance.”
For a moment, there was a tense silence, but then Jiraiya broke it with a sigh. “I can respect that. Just… don’t go rogue on us, okay? Konoha’s been through enough.”
Harry smiled faintly. “I have no intention of causing trouble. I’m here to protect my family, not start a war.”
Jiraiya gave a nod, feeling some of his wariness dissipate. Maybe this guy wasn’t so bad after all.
“So,” Jiraiya said, turning to Naruto. “You still showing off that Rasengan?”
Naruto grinned. “You bet! Uncle Harry said I’m getting better!”
Harry nodded approvingly. “He’s making remarkable progress.”
Jiraiya couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride as well. Maybe, just maybe, this unusual family was just what Naruto needed.
As the evening stretched on, the sounds of laughter and training filled the Pottaru household. For the first time in a while, Jiraiya felt a warmth settle in his chest. Maybe things would turn out all right after all.
