Strongest was puberty, and small indicators before. His parent did not know how to deal with a human child in general, and when they found out about his not so human-ness (and vampireness) they kinda hid him, and told him to hide all that. They were not the best… parents but they tried In their own way to keep him safe

You say his parents weren't prepared for a human child so did they not know or were they the ones to teach him to keep himself in check?
