Added 2022-11-06 13:00:07 +0000 UTCor the herculean imp, they are a species of large non dimorphic imp with what humans often mistaken as an all male kind. males and females look exactly the same, and only vary from their genes. sporting a general muscular appearance, they are strong contracting beings that stick to rules, deals, and agreements. their conversations are often business-like but hate "fancy" talk, and are strictly blunt and honest.
like fairies, they only develop breasts during pregnancy and subsequent nursing, if they themselves cant, the other members or a volunteer would nurse.
they live in generational homes, but aren't privy to strangers when a village is well established. they prefer peace and negotiation before battle, but will never not develop big safeguards (military) even in peacetime. highly intelligent, many imps are well versed in many forms of craft, and on the occasion will be specialized in certain areas, such as battle abilities. they have friendly relations with rainbow fairies if they ever come across each other.
they are shy in broad displays of intimacy, and are known to blush at simply embracing their own mates. simple affections such as nose kissing and long stares are accepted in moderation. married/bonded imps display their relationships with matching but uniquely different bands on parts of their bodies, even going as far as following a theme in outfits to corresponding members of their group. they are romantic in their own way haha. they love poems, the only accepted form of "fancy" talk that they like.
their language is phonetic and have many variations on the same sounds depending on the previous and subsequent parts, even the topic itself is considered for understanding the conversation. it is known to be simple in writing, difficult to speak as their pronunciations involve demonic vocalizations (the dnd form of abyssal).
they are a highly intelligent kind and can see a fraudster a mile away. they have an almost instinctual feeling of an unfair deal, which is a specialized version of the fight or flight response. (detecting danger), even if they are unaware of all the specifics of the situation. if developed, it can act as an omen, or even have predictive abilities.

2022-11-13 08:21:51 +0000 UTCone last thing (oh my username used to be untitledgamer btw I just learned how to change my acc appearance 😭) the negotiations and contracts aspect for fairness and what not is very cool but it is hilarious to consider the children drafting contracts and speeches over little/petty things such as increased playtime and other childrens dilemmas because knowing kids they are #1 at finding loopholes and exploiting them 💀 Silly little ones and their silly little contracts

2022-11-12 21:55:14 +0000 UTCooh good idea! yes, the wariness is from the history of their horns being taken/hunted for as an ingredient, tools/weapon, or just a trophy. they are so dense with mana, its very prized both in their own society and more nefariously to the outsiders. prosthetics and horn modification is a great addition, for the people who lost their horns, and for the people who want to decorate them in some way. the decorations could be a meaningful one, a ceremonial piece, something like channeling mana better (as you suggested), or just aesthetic reasons. the prosthetic designs and the modifications can even vary by village to village, or to the artisans/craftsmen that make them. and your last sentence 🥹prideful small horn society, they exist!

2022-11-12 21:33:40 +0000 UTCat least they factor in a person's privileges/affinities I guess 😅 Also the horns must be a reason why they are wary of strangers, I'm sure they're the equivalent of elephant tusks and shark fins 😥 the idea of horn modifications vs prosthetics is something that seems fitting like for example a priest or mage having some sort of jewelry or addition to their horns to maybe channel (might be something more for those practicing that those already established but still) their mana or its something a part of the ceremony/traditional garb. and horn prosthetics whether they're just for the look like most face prosthetics or they can be used like limb prosthetics for those who've had their horns taken/broken or were born without any/born with small ones. I can also imagine there's many with horns that are seemed unsatisfactory or lesser than that display pride in their little/broken horns 🥹.

2022-11-12 13:45:52 +0000 UTCthose are all good speculations! they probably do have a strong honor system and failing is like bringing shame to the family. the competition they do have is a bit more systematic and takes into account what family they are from. It is common for families who birth strategists continue to do so in future generations. they are expectations despite being an ability centric society. even though family is only a small portion of what is accounted for, and the proportions of what they look for are based off of sheer capability. the other thing they account for is education, status, and potential, which can root out family professions based on if their children will be able to achieve the same potential if they all received equal amounts of training and education. horn troubles are whole problem in of itself. they are an attractive trait to have, and having lacking horn sizes or even horns at all, is a sign of misfortune. Because of it mana carrying capacity, they are used in many magic based professions, battles mages, priests, construction, barrier, etc etc and they help in general life as well. being able to use magic for household duties or increase workloads with minor spells. without them, having a high position that's contingent on your magic capacity is very difficult. even in non-magic professions, horns are still preferred. sad sad times for the little horn imps. and the matching aesthetic is cute haha, they do handmake it for each other, as that's considered more loving, like a sign of dedication if they hand-make it. of course for the more expensive types of jewelry, they would employ custom work from a merchant, or by some already pre-made. if its a hand-me-down from their families, it is extra special, so the grandma ring cliche applies.

2022-11-10 03:13:49 +0000 UTCooo very interesting, I do wonder though how it functions in practice, like for example the levels/type of competition or if they have the honor system ( like the ones where in stories some elder goes " you've bought dishonor on our family" type thing" or how in hero stories the thing that is their strength becomes their weakness so someone who was once highly capable and revered for being so starts having a life crisis when they begin to decline. or if someone has horn troubles whether it's being born with no/stunted horns or their horns break Also side note the matching aesthetics/ jewelry is so <333 is it like a handmade for each other deal or could they purchase it from a merchant ? and I wonder if the this is my grandmother's ring I'm proposing with cliche applies with them . edit: imagining imp slam poetry rn
