Yes. Namek Vegeta was definitely more cunning in many ways. Probably because he knew 100% he wasn't the strongest fighter, he had to play things smart by killing Frieza's pawns first while getting stronger.

He doesn't want anyone's help because he thinks they will hinder him and whatever he accomplished he can claim he did on his own. If he was out of character, swallowed his pride and worked with Trunks, then he'd definitely be a cut above his "Super" self. But as usual, he plays with his food, makes them feel inadequate, basks in the glory of his newfound powers, becomes tunnel visioned and vulnerable and then s*it hits the fan.
