I was too young back then to comprehend that Mr. Krabs didn't make it after falling ill from the patty and what the doctor reads that makes him act so terrified is that, indeed, Krabs died and was talking with this kinda physical living spirit or something like that. And just right after, the Dutchman appears as if he was assuming the role of the reaper and takes Mr. Krabs down to hell (Davy Jones' locker). Another childhood mystery solved.
