I’ll be honest, the first 3/5th of the show was completely a lost cause for me. I tried to be optimistic but I was utterly let down, especially in the red ribbon army saga. But the Tien saga was *really* solid, and I was really enjoying the King Piccolo saga until Roshi died, that’s when the arc nosedived for me. Luckily, the Piccolo Jr saga brought me back in, and I liked it throughout. If I had to give the show an honest rating, I think a 6.5/10 is fair. I can’t discard how 60% of the show made me feel, but it picked up massively towards the end. Overall, I still have no idea what the glazers of this show were coming from, comparing it to Z. This show is nowhere as good as Z. It doesn’t even sniff it. All the major moments that I thought would be resonant (like Grandpa Gohan) were still solid, but they came and went without much impact. Krillin dying was the only event that I felt lived up to the expectations set by people who really push for OGDB. All that said, I’m still glad you watched it before Z because it enriches your experience with the sequels.
