I'm planning on posting something tomorrow (so far I've been keeping to a one-post-a-week schedule which seems very doable) though I'm not sure what. This week I've been revising the first half of a story I wrote six months back about a young homeless guy who gets picked up by a movie star. I like it very much, and it was the story that busted me out of a long blocked spell. But because the subject matter strays a bit from what I know in life, and because it is slower-paced and more emotionally fraught than my typical stuff, I'm feeling reticent to post it. I will, eventually. Probably next week. Possibly tomorrow. The other option is to write something new that gives me a boner and post that: you know, the usual!
Above is a not-terribly-exciting picture of a (2' x 2') print I've been working on for the past month or so. I don't think people are aware how much stuff I do that isn't writing-related. I regularly make weird zines and pamphlets that I distribute anonymously around my city. I've painted several large abstract/geometric indoor murals. I also make collages, and pretty much just follow the ole muse wherever he leads me. When I was a teenager I got really into screen printing, and I never revisited that until recently when I got the bug to make the print you see above. Those CMYK circles took a long time for me to get right - and even still I'm not totally satisfied with them, but it's close enough that I think I'm ready to move on to something else. Would it confuse you to tell you that it's printed on old bed sheets from a gay bathhouse? Because it is, for no other reason than I happened upon a big bag of old stained sheets from a gay bathhouse and they were the perfect things to practice screen printing upon. I made it because I want something for the huge, high walls of my new apartment. I'm going to stretch it over a frame, I think. It makes me happy. Color makes me happy, and the more the merrier. Why is that?

2019-12-06 03:50:32 +0000 UTCThe print is really lovely. I understand the appeal of color and it making you happy. I've always had that response to shiny things and things that are iridescent. I remember as a kid I had an old tin Sucrets box that was filled with glitter. I kept it in my pocket in school and when things got bad I would just open it and watch the light reflect off the tiny particles. It was like a little box of magic.
