I love that they had Richard break up with Therese and made it clear Carol was going through a divorce to get rid of that obstacle. The only thing "problematic" or could be, is age. But I liked it for life experiences. Therese is early 20s, I believe, and Carol is early 40s. It's also one of my favorite Christmas movies to watch-but perfect for Valentines Day Month, as it's SO damned swoony! Edit: I also hated the male characters, in general-unlike loving Professor Marston-who I get protective over, lol.
