Weekly Update 09/08/19

Hello, you handsome guys, gals, and everyone in-between! Get ready for some real stream of consciousness writing!

We've always had crossovers in Marvel, but the Marvel U has never felt larger (in scale) and smaller (in connectivity) than in 1974 and 1975. This feels in sync with Roy Thomas from Stan Lee (now in his Publisher role for the next 24 years) taking over as Editor-In-Chief in 1972. In our day of instant comic gratification, having story-lines cross series makes more sense to me. You get the next issue on Comixology, Marvel Unlimited, or order the floppy from your LCBS or Ebay. But in the 70's, it meant either buying it month to month, or perusing comic shops hoping you find the missing issue you need to fill in the run. To me, that prospect is both terrifying and electric. I have 20,000 Marvel comics instantly at my fingertips now, and I think it's fair to say I take that for granted. There's something special about limited access and building your collection of comics. I'm grateful for how technology has made access so simple, but there's something romantic about the search for that perfect floppy.
