The Flying Warriors

A monster so huge it looked like a mountain was approaching the Capital of Temperance.

Ponsuke’s group prepared a new encampment on the route that the earth dragon would pass.

They were looking at their stolen encampment that was within visible distance.

A small gnome with beard growing on his face, Lighter was giving  instruction to the people around him. They had completed the encampment  very quickly.

Looking around, they could see another guild who had the same thinking and creating an encampment to ambush the enemy.

「Thinking back now, perhaps it’s the right choice to let them have  that place. It was us who set up the traps there, so the damage  calculation will be added to our score.」

The tremor on the ground was gradually getting stronger. Meanwhile  Lighter got on Ponsuke’s shoulder while muttering that as he watched at  far away――at their stolen encampment.

Guruguru who was working together with the orcs came at Ponsuke’s place and agreed with Lighter’s opinion.

「Let’s hope those guys work hard to slow down the earth dragon as  much as possible. Come to think of it, there’s no more friendly fire  going on right?」

The players were hindering each other at the frontline. But, as  expected they seemed to have realized how unproductive it was and such  case gradually stopped happening.

Sololy suddenly showed up from nowhere and answered Guruguru’s question. It seemed he had been gathering information.

「That’s because the big guilds are efficiently dealing damage. The  players saw that and most tried to imitate them. There are scummy  guilds, but there are also proper guilds out there.」

The players who stole their encampment was going to be in the fighting distance soon.

The traps that were prepared by Lighter and other artisans went off  but, they didn’t deal considerable damage to the earth dragon.

Rook sweated a little when he saw that.

「This is……perhaps we should bury the traps right on its course. Though it’s too late to say that now.」

They were unable to form an effective plan because the clearing method of the quest hadn’t been established yet.

Sololy shook his head.

「I think that will be pointless. Its going straight ahead toward the  capital but, it apparently will change direction subtly when there are  too many traps. Really, the dev too are demons.」

Sololy was a solo player and had skills that were suited for covert action. He was good in gathering various information.

Ponsuke kept Lighter riding on his shoulder and said to Sololy.

「How about you join a party somewhere already?」

「My bad Ponsuke-kun. I’m a solo master who love solitude, so I can’t acquiesce to that even if it you who ask.」

He wasn’t a wicked player but, he had a weird fixation.

Then Lighter raised his voice.

「It started!」

What started was the players who took away their encampment had  gotten into battle with the earth dragon. The surrounding fortresses  also started attacking with magic, arrow, and also tool.

The attacks consisted of powerful magic and skills.

Explosives and other items that were created by the artisans hit the  earth dragon one after another. They caused explosion and smoke to  envelop it.

But, one step, two steps, the earth dragon appeared as it walked out from the smoke.

Alfie was dumbfounded.

「Is the damage getting through? Besides, it doesn’t feel like its HP is decreasing even though it’s under constant attack.」

The damage was getting through number wise, even so looking at the  status display, the decrease was too small it didn’t feel like it was  decreasing at all.

The blue haired players who had sank money into a lot of paid items  simply vanished after being trampled by the gigantic front leg of the  earth dragon without even being able to slow it down.

The players who created a fortress also got stomped by the earth dragon.

But, as to be expected, a ton of traps exploded simultaneously the  moment the earth dragon stepped there. It must have hurt it a little.

「……Wait. That thing’s skin, there’s a place where it’s crumbling. The  rock like skin is battered and I can see a soft looking part  underneath.」

Lighter hurriedly took out a binocular and confirmed what Mariela had seen.

「Mariela-san, that’s really amazing. You can see something like that even from this distance.」

Rook tapped Ponsuke’s arm.

「Ponsuke, we’re going to focus all of our firepower to that spot.  Tell the magicians to aim at the same spot. How many guys here can  attack from distance?」

Ponsuke looked at Mariela and Sierra in respond to Rook’s words.

Guruguru raised his hand, but he didn’t look confident.

「I can also use magic but it’s not my main class, so the firepower isn’t that great.」

Sierra averted her gaze.

「U-umm, I’m training my physical stats recently, so I’m not really magic specialist……」

Rook looked at Ponsuke.

「Just what are you doing? Magic class is the foundation of firepower you know!」

「I myself want to recruit someone like that, but they just won’t come! The ones who gathered around me are……」

The orc group was excitedly holding large shields in front of the overpowering earth dragon.

「Fufufu, we will get crushed mercilessly by someone who doesn’t even  notice that we are here. My heart can’t stop thumping just from  imagining it.」

「I want to get stepped on by the queen. Can’t we at least get a  reward of that level? I don’t need the item or anything as reward.」

「Reward is far better than rare item isn’t it?」

There was also orc magician, but in the first place orc wasn’t suited  for magic job. It would be a mistake to count on them in that aspect.

「……Only this kind of bunch gathered around me.」

「No, sorry for asking. That was my bad.」

Rook consoled Ponsuke. Meanwhile the tremor was gradually getting stronger.

Nanako pointed.

「Can’t we climb on the mountain on its back?」

Everyone looked at the direction where Nanako pointed. There was the  mountain that the earth dragon was carrying there. Its shape was  crumbling but it didn’t feel like they would be able to approach it.

Blaze put his hand on his chin.

「Certainly, we’ll be able to directly attack it if we can go up  there. Even close range fighter won’t have any trouble fighting up  there.」

The problem was how to get up there.

Everyone was sending glances at Ponsuke.

「……What’s with those looks? I don’t have any solution here.」

Blaze spoke to Ponsuke as everyone’s representation.

「No, but before you climbed on the fire dragon’s back.」

「There’s no way I can climb up there when I can’t even get ne――hah!」

Ponsuke noticed something and looked toward the spot where a trap was  set up. And then he put down Lighter from his shoulder and asked him  for confirmation.

「Lighter-san, is there trap to sending someone flying? If possible I  want it to be able to send the target flying until far away.」

Lighter put his hand on his chin to think but, his adorable small and round form made that gesture looked cute.

「……It’s possible if it’s just for sending something flying by piling  up several traps. But, I think it’ll deal a lot of damage when landing.  Can the average defense status endure that?」

Then the orcs started volunteering.

「Ponsuke-kun, looks like it’s our turn.」

「Prey-san……you’re finally acting seriously!」

「What are you saying? We’re serious all the time. Rather than that,  it looks like you have also opened your eyes. To think that you’ll rush  into a trap on your own……you’re a model hardcore M.」

Ponsuke wordlessly punched Prey, but it only made him happy.

There were nine installed traps.

They were prepared so the orcs could embark on the approaching earth  dragon. They were special mechanism that was made from piling up several  launcher traps.

「Ponsuke, are you serious?」

Mariela was worried, but Alfie tapped her shoulder and gave encouragement.

「Ponuske can do it. After all he is our comrade.」

Ponsuke spoke to the worried Mariela.

「Leave it to me. I climbed up a wall before jumping off from it last time. Surely I can also do something like this.」

Let’s believe on the game’s flexibility, Ponsuke told himself.

「Then, I’m going. Get away from here you two.」

The orcs took a crouching start pose. Rook gave a thumb at Ponsuke with a smile.

But, Sierra alone was――.

She calmly made a quip toward the situation.

However Nanako raised her hand when the earth dragon had gotten near.

「Then everyone, one, two, three~……go!」

The nine orcs broke into a sprint and stepped into their respective  trap with all their strength. Normally there would be fear when someone  knew that there was a trap.

However, they were hardcore M. A group who sought pain.

They scrambled to be the first to step on the trap, and then the orcs flew through the sky.

The players who got revived in the shrine were at their wits’ end.

「Oi, what’s wrong?」

The other players became worried and asked them. That player shook his head.

「I don’t get it. Just what the hell is with those guys」

「Did something happen to you!?」

The players asked, wondering if there was player killer who killed  them. Someone who did something like that in this kind of time would be  hated.

However the words that the revived players muttered were completely different than their expectation.

「Orcs flew through the sky.」

The players around them fell silent. And then one person opened his mouth after some time passed.

「No, just what are you saying――」

「It’s true! Those guys flew through the sky! Even I thought that they were crazy!」

The Capital of Temperance.

It was the moment that the flying orcs got added as one of the legend of the defensive battle.

The flying orcs’ large bodies crashed on the mountain on the approaching earth dragon.

Ponsuke performed ukemi but, the damage he received was still  considerable. Other race might not be able to stand for a while even if  they survived the landing.

He confirmed everyone’s safety, and then they healed their HP using paid item.

At the same time the statuses of the orcs were rising.

They drew their weapon, and then Ponsuke spoke.

「We will whittle the rock sin on the surface as much as possible. If  we do that the attacks of the other players will become more effective.」

The orcs happily accepted the plan that prioritized the earth  dragon’s subjugation rather than the guild’s accomplishment. They had  something that they treasured more than rare item.

「Leave it to us. But, don’t forget about the whipping from her majesty as the reward.」

「I want to be stepped on by princess wearing high heel.」

「I want Mariela-san to spit on me.」

Ponsuke thought.

(There’s really no more hope for these guys. It feels like they’re  even more horrible at RL. No, perhaps they might be unexpectedly serious  people there.)

Everyone scattered to every direction and started attacking the earth dragon with their weapon.

「Ora, try attacking back you mole bastard!」

Ponsuke and the others were whittling the earth dragon’s surface using special pickaxe that were given to them.

The other players fired magic and arrow at the spots that they orcs had whittled.

Sierra and Mariela’s magic and arrows also landed. The earth dragon’s HP got shaved down even more than before.

However, it was doubtful whether the monster would get defeated before it arrived at the Capital of Temperance.

「If it’s like this then I’ll dig more――」

Then a nearby orc got hit by magic and burst into red light.

「W-what!?」

He thought that it might be friendly fire from player who didn’t know  about the situation, but in the first place it was strange for an orc  to be killed with just one attack.

Damage from other player had great limitation placed on it. Something  like a magic that could defeat an orc who had hit the level limit in  one attack was just…….

While he was thinking that, Ponsuke saw a blue haired player at far away.

They were targeting Ponsuke and others who were whittling the earth dragon’s surface.

「Those guys, why?」

Ponsuke ran to move away from that spot. The foothold was bad because  the mountain was shaking. One orc stumbled down and got crushed by the  earth dragon.

They were running while whittling the surface. And then they stuck  the pickaxe on the ground when magic hit them in order to endure the  blast.

「They boosted their magic with paid item.」

Looking from this shaking mountain, it was clear that those players were intentionally targeting them.

Magic rained down one after another. The surrounding players were also concentrating their attack on the whittled spots.

The foothold was really bad. And then the orcs got erased one by one under the pouring attacks.

「Be more mindful with us here.」

Ponsuke kept whittling the surface even while complaining. But then  magic landed nearby him when he was going to move. The explosion  swallowed him and he was blown away.

Ponsuke rolled and then he fell toward the face of the earth dragon. He could see its huge eyes while falling down.

He threw his pickaxe at that eye. The word Critical popped out and it dealt damage.

「I did it, you bastaaarddd!」

Ponsuke thrust his fist as he fell, and then the earth dragon stomped him and he burst into red light.

The blue haired player.

His real name was [Kurita Futo]――his player name was [Zane Cacus].

「Don’t screw around. I won’t let you accumulate damage with that kind of cheating method.」

Zane was using paid item like there was no tomorrow. He had already  spending nearly a hundred thousand yen. He even borrowed money for the  event this time.

「Oi, fire more magic!」

「We got no MP anymore here! Even the items aren’t enough! The recast time too――」

He punched the player who talked back to him. And then Zane yelled at the approaching earth dragon.

「WE WON’T BE ABLE TO GET INTO THE TOP RANKS AT THIS RATEEEEE!」

He was someone unassuming at the real world.

But, it was different in the virtual world. He could become strong by spending money.

And then players gathered around him because of that.

He was able to command a guild and made achievement.

He chose the optimal jobs and skills for his avatar based on the  walkthroughs. He found it hard to control such avatar because of his  insufficient player skill but the people around him praised him to the  sky.

The screaming Zane was crushed by the earth dragon’s front leg and died once more.
