You want to receive the ball close to your body so that you can control what to do with your second touch. If your first touch is good, then you can choose to dribble, pass, shoot, etc from there. Not being able to receive the ball (having a good first touch) slows down the rhythm of the game and can lead to losing possession. There’s a video on YouTube called “The art of the First Touch” and you can see how insane pros are at ball control and how much it helps when you have a good first touch. Also going back to a few episodes when the team team was able to one touch pass the ball across the field effortlessly. If you don’t have a good first touch, no chance you’re able to do that successfully
