Chapter 6: Ork Company’s Motto is Win-Win

We returned to the city and checked the matter of our application to  open a stall. As expected, we are given the location in front of a  portable toilet, the worst location for a stall selling sweets.

To explain about this city’s temporary toilet, it’s a very deep hole  that is surrounded by wooden planks. Well, nobody will want to eat  something like sweets near such thing, absolutely.

The result is exactly like I expected that it made me laugh.

Tita is pouting by puffing her cheeks. She is glaring at the allocation paper.

「I’ll protest! How can they give this kind of place to an application for a sweets stall, this is absolutely insane.」

「No, there is no need for that. Show me that paper.」

I told Tita to send application for opening a stall even knowing that  this would happen because of my faint hope that even those senile old  fools still have a small amount of conscience and to take a look at this  allocation paper.

You can only get this paper after submitting an application. There is a rule that this paper cannot be shown to outsider.

There is also how we only sent this application late, so all the good  places have been occupied. Although this commercial city is vast, so  there are still a lot of places far better than this location near the  toilet.

「Hm, this place is nice.」(Tita)

「Ah, that’s the location where Zacharic Company is opening a stall.  The place is wide, and it’s also facing the main street. It’s the  best.」(Kururu)

「I’ll ask Zacharic Company to allow us to use that location. Let’s  also borrow several skilled pastry chefs and waiters from them.」

「Wait, that’s obviously impossible. There is no way they will give us a location this good aren’t they!?」(Tita)

Normally it will be like that.

Zacharic Company was able to take this location not because of a fair  lottery. They used political communication and money for it. They can  obtain this strategic location by going that far.

They won’t let go of it unless because of a significant reason.

But, conversely speaking…….

「We can negotiate with them for it if there is a significant reason.  Then Tita, I’m sorry but go cancel the application that Ork Company  made.」

「Yep, leave it to me. Also, don’t do anything that will anger Zacharic Company okay?」

「Of course.」

They are also my lifeline in my current situation where I’m being  targeted by the senile old fools of the commerce association, so I won’t  do anything stupid.

「Wait, why are you wearing apron!?」(Tita)

「If you’re making them at this kind of timing, that means it will be the weapon to persuade them then.」

As expected from Tita. She really know me well.

This sweets will be none other than the weapon that will make the great sage and his daughters to moan and Zacharic to consent.

I came to Zacharic Company.

Even though I came without making any appointment beforehand,  Zzacharic cancelled his scheduled meeting just to make time for me.

I can’t possibly waste his time, so I entered the main topic right away.

I spread out the allocation paper and point at the location in question.

「I have a request. I want you to give me this location……or rather, I  want to turn it into a joint stall for Ork Company and Zacharic  Company.」

「……You suddenly say something outrageous again. There is no way you  don’t understand the meaning of this location being in our possession.」

「Yes, I come with this proposal exactly because I understand. Please  rest assured. I’m a merchant. There is no way I’ll make a proposal that  will only benefit myself. Such thing will throw a mud at the face of my  teacher, Helf Randall.」

Not only that’s how a merchant should act, that’s the minimum etiquette a merchant must have, a rule.

Only swindler or beggar will try to profit one-sidedly for themselves.

The exchange between merchants can only be formed for the first time when there is profit for both sides.

「Fumu, then what is the merit for my Zacharic Company to open this joint stall?」

「……Before that allow me to confirm the premise. There is something  that Zacharic Company has to accomplish no matter what in this  celebration, the largest scale festival in the world that gather people  from inside and outside the country. That is making an appeal for coffee  and cheap sugar. Am I wrong?」

Zacharic is a real deal of a merchant. In that case, there is no way  he is planning to use the festival with the sole purpose of earning  money from a single day sale.

If people from all over the world will gather, he will think to  advertise his main product to the whole world that will lead to even  more sale in the future.

That’s exactly why he take possession of the greatest location to put a shop there that will advertise his main product.

「I won’t deny that. Yes, that stall will be for that. I’m also  thankful to Ork Company because it’s only thanks to you that both the  sugar and coffee will become successful products. But, I have already  paid the compensation for that. I don’t think that I’ll need Ork  Company’s help for the festival, nor do I remember of any debt that I  have to you.」

That too is true.

Suggesting something only by relying on the connection from managing  the products together……there is no way that kind of naïve thinking will  go through. A contract is absolute, you can’t ask for more after  receiving the amount that is written in the contract.

「I know. That’s why I want to make an offer. A weapon for the sake of  advertising coffee and sugar to even wider audience. How is Zacharic  Company planning to advertise coffee and sugar? At most you will only  open a café that also sell those goods.」

「At most you say? That’s a horrible way to put it, but it’s just as you say.」

「That’s weak. Coffee is starting to take root in this commercial city  and its neighboring cities. It also has some degree of popularity……but,  it’s still lacking to grab the attention of people all over the world.  It doesn’t has the impact to grasp their heart in one shot.」

「Fumu, that won’t necessarily be the case with the mood of the festival helping won’t it?」

「It’s exactly because it’s a festival that people will get curious  and drink coffee. But, will it be enough to make them want to drink it  one more time?」

People would try to eat and drink strange things because it’s a festival.

They will give it a try because of such curiosity.

But, the charm of coffee isn’t something that can be understood from  just trying it once. In most case, people will only have the impression  of bitterness remaining behind when drinking coffee for the first time.

「Then, what kind of suggestion Ork-dono has for me?」

「A sweets that has been presented to the treasure of the Forland  Kingdom that is the greatest country of this continent, the beautiful  princess Rurine Forland. That princess was astonished by it and gave it  her high praise. Such sweets of wonder is being sold in that stall.  Furthermore it is created by our coffee and sugar as its ingredients.」

「……Surely such sweets will be showered with tremendous attention if  such thing can really come true. It will become the greatest showpiece  of this festival itself. IN addition, if it’s a sweets that Princess  Rurine highly praised, it will grasp the eater’s heart just by eating it  once. But, I’ve never heard any rumor that such sweets exist.」

「Yes, that’s correct. After all I’m planning to give it to Princess  Rurine tomorrow for her to try, and then I’m going to ask her to spread  the rumor in the high society. I’m going to make the legend after this.  The rumor will spread before the festival start, and then the major  merchants will hear about it and the rumor will resound in the middle of  the masses too.」

「Something like that……I don’t doubt that such thing is within  Ork-dono’s capability. But, I thought that you dislike making use of  your influence as a royalty?」

He asked me with an expression that is a mix of exasperation and expectation.

「Exactly. But, Rurine is my woman. I won’t hesitate to borrow the  strength of my woman, and besides I’m going to make a sweets that won’t  bring any shame to her name. The sweets is going to be something that  will make want her to brag to other people no matter what even if I’m  not asking her to.」

If it’s Rurine, she will surely proclaim any sweets that I give her as wonderful no matter how bad it actually is.

But, Rurine’s reputation will be harmed if she do something like  that. If Rurine is going to praise the sweets than it has to be  something that is worthy for her praise.

「Fuh, as I thought Ork-dono is interesting. It’s a nice idea,  certainly sweets will be more attractive than beverage. More so if it’s a  sweets that has been given Rurine Forland’s stamp of approval. I too  wish to give it a try by all means.」

「I thought you’ll say that, so I’ve brought it with me.」

I took that out.

My cake that used coffee and also the best quality of milk that I obtained by intentionally making a village for it.

Zacharic took a bite of it before he broke into a smile.

「This is, wonderful. It’s good enough already even without the stamp  of approval of Rurine Forland. Very well, let’s open a joint stall  together!」

I smiled and shook his hand.

Now then, there is another problem now that thing became like this.

If this sweets is turned into the showpiece of the festival, then the  quantity of the ingredients that we will need will be in a different  scale.

I only noticed it after this late.

Just the capacity of my ranch won’t be enough.

(Guess I’ll ask them.)

I’m going to orc village and ask for meat that I promised Kururu.  While I’m there, I’ll also consult them if they can supply me with cow  milk during the festival or not.

……But, it’s my childhood friends who are managing the cows huh. The trio who bullied me in the past.

I paid a great amount when I asked them for the female cow and calves.

I wonder what they will demand from me next……but, I can’t make an  omelet without breaking eggs. Creating this sweets required the orc  quality cow milk. Also it’ll be inexcusable if the sweets run out in  just several hours after the festival started.
