Someone on the internet summarized the movie as "Alien is a movie where no one listens to the smart woman and then they all die except for the smart woman and her cat". There's not a lot left to be said after that. Oh, and to answer a question you asked. "Alien" came out in 1979. "The Thing" was released in 1982, so yes "Alien" came first.

One of my favorite movie. As you said it is incredible how well the film has aged. One of the main theme is indeed about AI and if we can trust it (through Ash and Mother). I also red an analysis of the movie in which Mother is an allegory for God and / or religion. I don't know if I fully agree with it but it offers another perspective.
As someone else said, the alien design is from the artist HR Giger. His artistic universe deals a lot with biomechanics, hence the general aspect of the alien. It is also very sexual, as you can see in the phallic shape of the alien's head, the double mouth it uses to penetrate / kill his victims and of course the death scene of Lambert's which is supposed to represent sexual assault. Some of Giger's works make you pretty uneasy and I have wanted to go visit Giger's museum in Switzerland for years (maybe I will next year).
Ripley is the first character I think of when someone speaks about powerful women characters. But the fun part is, the original script (very close to the final product) did not mention any of the characters' gender. It is only during the casting phase they chose the main character to be a woman after seeing Sigourney's performance.
I don't know if you intend to do more movie analyses but, if you want to, I have a list of movies that are less known but are really thought-provoking while being also entertaining (although some are really sad). Even if you don't make videos, I can still provide the list for you to watch these on your own.
As usual, great analysis and I look forward to your next video. Take care of yourself.

The insanely brilliant and unique design of the alien is due to it being created by H.R Giger who was a truly revolutionary artist. I highly recommend checking out his work and all will become clear about where the entire aesthetic comes from and why it is timeless.
Sigourney as Ripley is one of the most iconic roles in all film history and not only because it was such a landmark in having a female heroine who is blatantly smarter and more capable than the men around her. Aliens is also a work of art but a very different vibe from this film. You should absolutely watch it next.
Great reaction. π

I've never enjoyed this one, but it's all worth it when you watch the sequel.

Great movie! I agree about the slow burn at the beginning, I really enjoy movies and shows like that.

"In space, no one can hear you scream" was the tag line, so yeah, horror, lol. This movie came out when I was 11, and I saw it way too young. I have scars.
