Help me out - Rings of Power question
Added 2024-10-22 17:40:16 +0000 UTCSO. Help me out folks I genuinely am not sure what to do here. I'm covering Rings of Power season 2 and the plan so as not to get bogged down and be covering yet another show for a long period of time was to record it all and make 2 huge videos and release them within a week. This is basically, in essence, still the plan. I've recorded 4 eps so far and just finished editing 2 eps together, but the video is an hour long at the moment. I feel like if I make the first 4 eps into 1 video as per the original plan and it's (let's assume) 2 hours long in total that's a little ridiculous and no one will want to watch that.
I was just going to commit to it and do it anyway but I'm curious what people think? I'm still going to do the work, make the videos, and release it all in a short period of time, but I'm curious how people think I should package them? 2 huge videos with 4 eps per vid, or 4 one hour long videos with 2 eps per video? Honestly maybe I just gotta get over it and do the 2 huge vids.

Not gonna watch cause I don’t care about that show but like I said previously in a Buffy comment I don’t mind long videos, actually prefer them. It’s always easy to stop and come back to it later anyway!

2024-10-23 04:18:28 +0000 UTCI won’t be watching, because S1 was so dire, but personally I don’t mind long videos. I don’t watch them all in one sitting. In case it’s helpful another reactor I watch often releases TV series in big compilation videos (most of their reactions are to movies) - for example this: https://youtu.be/5OkOp8avFcg?si=yRAugNbZoj-YU8E_. Theirs are ~1 hour videos, but personally I wouldn’t mind them being 2 hours or whatever - like I say I just wouldn’t watch it all at once.

2024-10-22 18:28:52 +0000 UTCI would prefer four one-hour videos. Two hours per video is a very big commitment and I probably wouldn't bother, I rarely have the time to watch that much at once and when I do I usually go for a movie.

2024-10-22 18:14:25 +0000 UTCMy personal feelings about the show (as a Tolkien fanatic I don't have a lot of good to say about it unfortunately) aside, your strength is in your commentary which is definitely unique in the space of reactors and I think people interested in that side of you want to see more than something that is edited down a lot. I know editing and compiling when you have many other shows on your plate is a pain, but I would err on the side of showing more than editing down to less. But to your question about how to deliver it, I think the 4-hour-long videos seems more digestible. That said, I wouldn't worry too much about people being turned off if you go the other route. We're here for your insights, so I wouldn't worry about the people that like your reactions being put off no matter what you decide. Make the decision based on what feels better from an editing standpoint, and be confident that the people that like your content won't mind the format. If these are going on YouTube eventually, then 2 episodes per video seems more sensible from an algorithm standpoint though.

On the other hand (not having watched the show yet, myself) maybe your commentary would benefit from analyzing arcs that span several episodes at a time 🤷♀️ Not a very helpful answer, eep, sorry 😅
