Performance Points Curve Change
Added 2020-03-02 01:55:49 +0000 UTCWHATS HAPPENING TO MY PP?! Chill, let me explain.
The old curve
As you may or may not know, the % amount of PP rewarded to you upon completion of a ranked map is determined by the following curve:

As you can see, there is a massive spike going up in the ~72% - 82% score range, rewarding most of the performance points in this area, please note, this curve was created an entire year ago, before the major beat saber scoring update, and before several major meta shifts, it's about time we get an update.
So, what does the curve look like now?
I'm glad you asked, here is a graph comparing the old and new curve
EDIT: After feedback from the community the curve has been updated once again, here is each curve compared:

Okay, so why did you change the curve?
The Beat Saber scoring system change
On the 28th of May, 2019 Beat Sabers scoring system changed for the better, put simply an SS rank became much easier to achieve, the same applies with the corrosponding ranks below. Before the change getting above 90% accuracy on maps that were considered difficult at the time was extremely rare, which is why the old curve was designed the way it was.
You can read more about this change here
Imbalance & difficulty progression
Currently it is commonplace for players of the mid - lower range to play maps way above their skill level as it is rewarded so highly under the old curve, while maps around their skill level don't yield as high of a reward, this change will essentially reverse that, promoting a healthier difficulty progression.
Put simply - if mid - lower ranked players play maps their skill level and achieve higher accuracy, they'll be rewarded more pp than simply passing a map outside of their skill level with low accuracy. Get good scores, get high pp.
The high end
As you can see with the new curve, higher accuracy plays are rewarded far more handsomely with a far steeper dropoff compared to the old curve. If you were a player who would regularly achieve high accuracy plays, and move up from a 91% to 93% and only notice a marginal pp increase, despite the level of skill required to make such a jump, this will no longer be the case, and you will actually be rewarded for your efforts as apposed to the old curve.
Mapper encouragement
With the old curve, mappers have been encouraged more than ever to make higher difficulty maps, this has been an ongoing issue as they're neglecting the lower difficulty ranges, with this change, the majority of the playerbase will be looking for maps their skill level to improve at the game and earn more pp to work up to the more difficulty stuff, creating a far healthier system
Ok so what if this goes terribly wrong?
Just like every major change that is made, if we feel it isn't working out, it can always be reverted. But we're confident this will be nothing but good for the competitive community, and we're extremely excited to see what happens!
