We use the most upto date version. It's a personal preference. Animate isn't the absolute best at everything, but Greg and Ian have been animating in adobe animate since it was called "Flash" (over 20 years). A pretty common alternative is toon boom, but we love that animate slots in with the rest of our adobe workflow. We also use a lot of after effects - animate just does better for traditional animation
