A Friend in Need Poll

It may have gotten away from you, but I was enjoying "A Friend in Need". I was looking forward to seeing how Harry and Tonks, along with their girlfriends, were going to end Moldyshorts.

I liked A Friend in Need when it was only Harry/Tonks, but as far as I'm concerned that ship has sailed. I'd say, rather than finishing it and then just rewriting it, finish it and then start another different story with the basic "Harry gains independence through Tonks" premise. Sirius figuring out a way to have Tonks train Harry during the tournament as an example.

I really enjoyed the surrogate, and was interested in the Remus subplot and how that would work out. Would he confront Harry when she left him, would she stay in an unhappy relationship cause it was expecte, etc. whenever you get the chance I would really enjoy seeing this again

I liked it better when it was just Tonks. Fleur was ok but was I was "Meh" about it but Hermione is where I was like nope. Just another Harem story.

I definitely enjoyed a friend in need when it was just harry/tonks much more, I even didn't mind fleur because the connection she had with Harry was great. Hermione though is where I started to enjoy less because then it felt more harem. Still a good story though. The surrogate is one of my all time favorites and I would love 2 see more. I always kind of hoped that she would reveal that she was lying about being with Remus because she was too scared to admit she liked Harry, that would have been a good way to have it be a singular less drama free Harry/tonks story

I always wanted Surrogate to continue, really loved that concept and that it felt like a real connection was forming between the two outside of the great smut that was written. It probably also helped that the whole Remus/Tonks pairing just doesn’t feel right and him trying to abandon her in DH forever puts him on the shit list I think you could make a great solo pairing with Harry/Tonks centered around the journal reveal from The Surrogate

While I personally don’t care for the Harry/Tonks stories, I know some people love them. In the end I would say if it gives you enjoyment and helps spark your creative flow than go for it. I have enough stories that I do like to keep myself happy

Finish stories, and write new ones. If you need to revisit and fix something that nags at you sure, but overall rewriting is not new, and the only thing is does is drag you down with perceived failures. The stories need to fly free from the nest and find their way, flawed or not.

I would just go back to I think chapter 8 or so and continue it from there without all the extra girls. It would probably end up a completely different story and shorter.

I really do love the Harry/Tonks ship. While sad to see the story get stopped, can’t wait for what you make next. I really do like harem stories but I agree with the earlier comments where it felt like it was getting too big.

I think what might help you out here is that the things you write to enjoy and the things you write for your patrons need to be strictly kept apart. Have a few stories that you love love to write that's more for you than the patrons. Then the patron stories for them. You write well enough you'll have interest on the stories you really enjoy writing and everyone else still has their staples (friend in need/thrown back). A friend in need would need to be totally restructured to have a single pairing make sense.

I like "A Friend in Need" as it is but only with Tonks ist good with me as well. As for what to focus on I would like something witch you like and enjoy writing as that leads to the best results and I don't have a particular favourite.

I'll say this: turning "A Friend in Need" into a harem story killed my interest in the story personally. It was my favorite story of yours and to me it's lost it's charm. You need to write things that bring you enjoyment, but I'd like to see you do a more character focused story at some point like what "A Friend in Need" was. If that is Harry/Tonks cool, if it's a different story fine, but you had something cool and unique that I personally miss. I understand I'm in the minority though

I understand your hamletic doubts, they're common to every writer :) don't be too hard on yourself and your work, you're great. In my opinion, you should focus on new stories or develop the ones who need closure.

For at least myself, I think Friend in Need is, if not perfect, truly exceptional. A rewritten version with only Tonks wouldn't be as impactful because the original would cast a shadow over it. If you wanted to do a different story which is purely Harry/Tonks, I'd be 100% here for it though!

I personally don’t mind whatever you choose to do because although I like it when everyone gets some love in your stories, Harry/Tonks is one of my favourite parings for a reason so I’m fine either way.

I wish there was an option that wasn't strictly Harry/Tonks, but did reduce the bloat a bit. Normally like Harry/Amelia, but it felt a bit too much for this story with all the was set up.
