Lazarus Protocol (Working Tittle)
Added 2021-10-14 16:08:04 +0000 UTCIf you have been following my post over on discord, you might have heard me talk about this project. My goal for it is to be a fairly straightforward 'kinetic visual novel'.
After running into some serious writer's block, due to reasons I already went over in my post earlier in the month, I thought a Temporary Change in Direction was needed.
I thought for a bit about what I could work on that would not take as long to implement and ultimately decided that the fewer characters the better, and I eventually settled on this voyeuristic concept.
A colony ship on the way to another planet suffers a catastrophic failure in the crew's cryogenics bay. 90% of the crew were killed in their cryo pods. Of the few that remain, most have suffered extensive bodily harm, and would not survive being woken from cryosleep without a skilled medical team ready to treat them.
Without a fully trained and ready crew, it would be impossible to land and construct a livable colony when they reach their destination. The company that has funded this mission has put in place emergency protocols for events just like these. The ship's AI activates the Lazarus Protocol, waking the sole surviving viable female from cryosleep, the AI must now coach and prepare the woman for her new duties as a surrogate. The ship needs a crew for when they reach their new home, even if they need to raise and train a new one on the way there.
The player will have access to surveillance cameras and the woman's video logs, but no direct interaction. Everything is handled through the AI character. I have ideas for how this could be expanded into a much more robust game, with multiple choices and management mechanics, but I do not want it turning into a huge multi-year project. It's might be something I expand on in the future, but right now it's meant as a short-term project that I actually finish so I can get back to working on Jessica's Comic and my 7DoS visual novel asap.
