*Chapter 48: Dividing the Spoils*

After struggling painfully on the ground for a while, Kiba slowly stood up, still shaken, and glanced at his status information.

- Health: 76/160 (+90)

- Mental Power: 10/25

The last hit took a full 58 points of health. If he hadn’t taken the healing potion beforehand, he might not have been able to stand up now.

With no healers around, every injury had to be treated with potions. Looking back, this mission had completely drained his stockpile. Apart from adrenaline for temporarily boosting his stamina, his inventory was now empty.

He glanced at the healing skill in his skill bar, hoping that the upgraded effect would be satisfactory.

Kiba then bent down to pick up the treasure chest that had dropped next to the body of the Oni, Akin.

*[You have obtained a Plot Treasure Chest (Orange)]*

An orange-quality chest was two levels higher than the blue one from the shielded man, so Kiba expected the loot to be of much greater value. He hoped it would contain some potions; otherwise, he wouldn’t dare to act so recklessly again if he encountered danger.

Ignoring the wailing Alvida on the ground, Kiba prepared to head toward the battlefield where the two captains had fought. Just then, the Onmyoji girl and her two subordinates returned.

The fact that all three were injured clearly showed how intense the battle had been. However, judging by their appearance, they must have taken care of their opponents.

“Since you’re back, let’s split the loot.”

“In such a hurry?”

“I have a feeling this fight isn’t over yet.”

In truth, it wasn’t about any feeling. It was simply that Kiba felt unsafe because he had run out of potions.

Under normal circumstances, Captain Kuro’s battle should have been over by now. The fact that no sound had come from it meant that something unexpected had happened.

After thinking it over, he decided to divide the spoils first to see if he could boost his strength.

There were two Plot Chests and two Killing Chests. After exchanging glances, the two decided to take turns opening them.

“I’ll go first.” The Onmyoji girl eagerly opened the relic of a fallen Reincarnator.

*[You are opening Killing Chest No. 11402]*

*[You have obtained 160 Plot Points]*

*[You have obtained a Broken Scepter]*

*[You have obtained a Lightning Skill Scroll]*

Seeing the three items before her, Runa was quite pleased.

The lightning skill could make up for her lack of offensive techniques and could also be used to perform a combo attack with her familiar, Akatongue.

The scepter could serve as her main weapon, and it was worth it just for the mental attribute boost.

The Plot Points, of course, were needed by everyone, but that would depend on the situation.

After a moment of thought, Runa offered compensation to her companion: “A D-rank skill and a scepter that needs repair. How about I give you 1,200 Plot Points for them?”

“Sounds fair.”

Essentially, Runa spent 1,200 Plot Points to acquire the two items from the magician.

As for Kiba’s loot:

- Plot Points: 3305

Satisfied, he smiled and opened the shielded man’s Plot Chest next.

It’s always good to save the best for last, so he decided to start with the smaller one.

*[You are opening a Plot Chest (Blue)]*

*[You have obtained 50 Plot Points]*

*[You have obtained a Silver-Plated Iron Shield]*

*[You have obtained a Super Defense Skill Scroll]*

Non-gold-tier chests only give three rewards, including Plot Points, unlike the former, which can give four.

The quantity was low, and the quality wasn’t great either. In terms of actual value, the two were not on the same level.

Knowing that Kiba was new, Runa took the initiative to explain: “An E-rank skill is basically trash, only good for fooling newbie Reincarnators. The iron shield isn’t much better and could be sold as a bundle.”

After a quick assessment, she added: “With some effort, these two items could sell for around 400 points. I’ll give you 250.”

Fine, 250 it is. Kiba wasn’t interested in wasting too much time selling items anyway.

As for the price Runa offered, to be honest, Kiba didn’t fully understand it. But he knew one thing: his value to others wasn’t just a few thousand Plot Points.

As long as she didn’t want to ruin their relationship, Runa wouldn’t play any tricks over such a small amount of money.

“It’s my turn again.” She looked excited.

Which was understandable; anyone would be happy when opening treasure chests.

Gains always bring joy.

*[You are opening Killing Chest No. 13680]*

*[You have obtained 200 Plot Points]*

*[You have obtained a Ring of Tenacity]*

*[You have obtained Bracers of Endurance]*

A pair of bracers and a ring—both were types of equipment that Kiba currently lacked. After a quick look at the attributes, he decided to keep them.

Each Reincarnator can equip items in the following slots:

- Main Hand/Off-hand, Necklace, 2 Rings, Headgear, Clothes, Pants, Bracers, Cloak, Shoes

He currently lacked one ring, clothes, pants, shoes, a cloak, and bracers.

He's currently missing a ring, clothing, shoes, a cloak, and gloves.

If it's possible to craft the Germa technology armor, it would directly solve the issue of clothes, pants, cloak, and shoes. In that case, his priority should be to quickly find a ring and gloves.

Whether it works well or not, at least the equipment slots would be filled.

Seeing the look in his companion's eyes, Ryuno knew what they were thinking.

"Including the 100 points allocated from the treasure chest, just pay me an additional 800. Rings are pretty rare equipment."

"Alright."

As he put the ring on his finger, Kiba’s maximum health instantly increased by 20 points, giving him a slight boost in survivability.

Next up is the bracer, which has decent stats too.

*Name:* Bracer of Tenacity

*Grade:* Excellent

*Category:* Bracer

*Durability:* 30/30

*Attribute Enhancement:* Constitution +1, Strength +1

*Usage Requirement:* Strength 6, Constitution 5

*Equipment Effect:* Endurance Boost

*Origin:* Mushoku Tensei

*Equipment Evaluation:* Don’t expect it to let you wield a battle axe; it merely lets you pick one up.

*Endurance Boost (Passive Skill):* Enhances your hidden stamina, allowing you to equip gear that exceeds your strength limit.

In the end, Kiba spent 500 story points to purchase the second piece of equipment, further increasing his health.

Of course, this is just an appetizer. The real deal is in that orange story chest.

*[You are opening a Story Chest (Orange)]*

*[You have received 200 story points]*

*[You have received Armor-Piercing Twin Clubs]*

*[You have received Oni Warrior Technique]*

The former is a super rare weapon with an armor-piercing effect, while the latter is a close combat skill possessed by the story character Agin.

Neither item met their needs, so Ryuno had to sell them off.

“The weapon is worth 900, and the skill is probably around 200.”

The actual value might be slightly higher, but those matters don’t concern Kiba much. He just accepted the onmyoji lady’s offer.

Even if she could sell it for 10,000, that’s her business. Once the deal is made, he wouldn’t hold a grudge over a price difference.

Kiba isn't that petty.

After restocking his gear, his stats saw a significant improvement.

*Name:* Kiba

*ID:* 14552

*Rank:* Private Second Class

*Merit:* 2

*Story Points:* 3455

*Attribute Points:* 0

*Story Worlds:* 1

*Title:* Pirate Captain

*Health:* 52/140 (+70)

*Spirit:* 25 (+6)

*Perception:* 15 (+5)

*Equipment:* Enhanced 3D Maneuver Gear IV, Dragoon, Lost Homeland, Fine Ring, Ring of Resilience, Bracer of Tenacity, Germa Detector IV

Looking at his attributes, without considering his experience in the story world, Kiba’s stats have already reached the limit of what an ordinary Reincarnator could achieve.

Though he’s missing a few key pieces of equipment, how many people can fully gear up? Having two pieces of protective gear is already quite a privilege.

Watching his health slowly recover to 52 points, Kiba and Ryuno headed to the final battleground.

There, at some unknown point, Krieg, who had reclaimed his golden armor, was brutally beating up the pitiful Black Cat Captain.

Silent Steps is indeed strong, but it can’t be used continuously without pause, and there’s always a moment when Kuro is forced to stop.

Whenever this happens, the Pirate Admiral seizes the chance to launch a fierce attack. The power of the great battle spear is off the charts, and it can cause explosions on contact.

Earlier, Kuro was almost taken out by the resulting smoke and fire.

*[Krieg (Pirate Admiral)]*

*[Attack Tendency: High]*

*[Attribute Tendency: Strength, Constitution]*

*[Trait: Strong as an Ox]*

*[Threat Assessment: Extremely Dangerous]*

"This is your target." The onmyoji lady nervously swallowed, her eyes darting to a corpse on the ground.

It was Sam’s body, though it’s unclear how he died. It probably has something to do with these two.

Seeing Kiba arrive, the two captains reacted differently. Krieg’s face instantly darkened, looking as if he had just lost his mother.

“Is Agin dead?” he asked.

“Yes.” Kiba raised his gun and fired, as if answering the question was payment enough.

It was clear, though, that the regular bullets from the Dragoon weren’t enough to deal with him. Either he aimed for the head, or he would have to activate special ammunition.

“Hmph, what a bunch of useless fools,” Krieg cursed his two subordinates, embodying cold-heartedness to the fullest.

Glancing at Ryuno beside him, Kiba asked quietly, “Can you still summon shikigami?”

“No, both of them are on cooldown.”

Now that he thought about it, it made sense. She wouldn’t have been able to kill two Reincarnators so quickly without using her full strength.

The cooldown for summoning shikigami is quite long, just like his Titan Summon.

Without their summoned creatures, how will these two fight against such a formidable opponent? The answer is simple—attack his weak points.

Wearing such heavy armor must significantly reduce his agility, so let’s completely strip away this guy’s mobility.

Ammo Master loaded, ice bullet fired!

Target: The ground beneath Admiral Krieg.
