*Chapter 394: Exposing and Fury*
Added 2024-09-10 04:31:42 +0000 UTCAt the party, Link followed Harvey and met a bunch of famous filmmakers. At first, he thought they were trying to recruit him, but then he realized something was off.
He remembered how he had cursed Harvey out over the phone last time, so it was impossible that Harvey bore him any goodwill. Whatever Harvey was up to, it couldn't be good.
Link noticed the excited expression on Harvey's face and guessed that he was probably showing off, like a mafia boss flaunting his gang members, trying to intimidate him.
After introducing the filmmakers, Harvey introduced him to more than ten beautiful actresses and models, including Cara Delevingne, Lena Headey, Lupita Nyong'o, and Eliza Dushku—women in their twenties and thirties.
As he made the introductions, Harvey, in a friendly manner, put his arm around Link's shoulder and told him that he could choose any woman he wanted, sleep with whoever he fancied, and there would be no problems.
Link politely declined.
At the party, leaving aside older actresses like Nicole Kidman, none of the young actresses could compare to Jennifer Lawrence in terms of looks and figure, let alone Alexandra Daddario or Nozomi Sasaki.
During the introductions, he didn’t pay much attention and simply greeted them politely.
Harvey observed him closely, and his expression suddenly darkened.
---
Bang!
“Damn you, Link! How dare you deceive me? I’m going to kill you.”
In the villa, Harvey grabbed a vase and smashed it on the ground. He was breathing heavily, his face quivering with rage, and there was a murderous look in his eyes.
Bob stood at the door, noticing the shattered porcelain, a flicker of pain in his eyes. The vase was an antique he had purchased from Japan for over $30,000, and now it was in pieces.
Seeing Harvey pick up another vase, Bob quickly intervened to stop him.
“Harvey, it’s normal that Link didn’t accept the women you arranged for him. He’s a big star, and even if he’s lustful, he’ll be mindful of his reputation. Of course, he wouldn’t easily accept unfamiliar women. I think this kind of thing needs to be done gradually. Once he’s more familiar, he’ll definitely accept the women you send him.”
Bob tried to console him.
“Hmph, you think I’m mad about that? No, damn it, Link tricked me. The actresses I introduced today are ones I’ve assaulted before, and they’ve caused trouble in the past.
When Link mentioned over the phone that he had dirt on me, I immediately had my lawyers negotiate with them, spending over $3 million and offering more than ten movie roles to settle things.
This time, I invited them to the party to drag Link into the mess. But that damn Link didn’t react at all when he saw these women and heard their names. Do you know what that means?”
Harvey roared, his belly shaking.
“What?”
“It means that damn guy doesn’t know who they are or what happened to them, which means he doesn’t have any dirt on me. He’s just making things up based on rumors.
He’s scamming me! Scamming me, the most powerful man in Hollywood!!”
Harvey pounded his fists on the table, screaming hysterically.
Bob frowned, thought for a moment, and asked, “Are you sure? You’ve harmed so many actresses. Could it be that the dirt he has is on someone else?”
“Impossible! The women I messed with in the ‘80s and ‘90s are all married with kids now, with families and reputations to protect. They wouldn’t dare cause trouble.
The ones who do are brainless young women, like those I just introduced. But Link didn’t react at all when he saw them. I’m sure he’s scamming me.
Damn Link, I won’t let you get away with this.”
Harvey’s face turned red as he shouted.
“So what are you going to do? Link isn’t just anybody. He’s worth billions, with businesses spanning sports, entertainment, technology, and automobiles. Plus, there are rumors in New York that he’s about to marry Ivanka Trump. With the Trump family’s influence, his political and legal connections are just as strong as ours. It’ll be hard to take him down.”
Bob said.
“So what? This is Hollywood; it’s my turf. If he dares to cross me, he should be ready for his reputation to be destroyed.”
Harvey growled.
He still remembered how, during that phone call, Link had insulted him, calling him gutless and not a real man.
He had been furious, wanting to kill Link right then.
Then that bastard claimed he had dirt on him that could ruin him.
To protect himself, Harvey had no choice but to agree to work with Link and even give him half of a lucrative project.
But what happened in the end?
It was all lies. Link didn’t have any dirt on him. He had been played for a fool.
The thought of being manipulated by Link’s made-up threats, of having to back down, smile, and even offer women to him, made Harvey grind his teeth in anger. Since becoming a famous Hollywood producer, he hadn’t suffered such humiliation in over twenty years, but this time, Link had thoroughly humiliated him.
He wouldn’t let it go.
“Ruined? How do you plan to ruin him?”
Bob asked.
Harvey took a few deep breaths, sat in his office chair, and thought of a few ideas.
“First, Link wants to be a famous movie star, so we’ll make sure he can’t get any roles.
Second, we’ll blacklist Palm Beach Pictures so his investments go down the drain.
Third, we’ll use the media to throw dirt on him and destroy his reputation.”
“Will that work?”
Bob shook his head after listening. “That’s going to be tough. First, Link is a world-class star with strong box office appeal. The big six studios won’t pass up an actor who can drive ticket sales. Plus, he’s already signed on for ‘Captain America.’ Before the movie’s release, Marvel Studios, Disney, and Paramount Pictures will all protect him and won’t let his reputation be damaged.
If ‘Captain America’ does well at the box office, Marvel will continue with sequels, making it even harder for us to ruin his reputation. As for Palm Beach Pictures, Link has money and can continue investing. It’s almost impossible to blacklist the company.”
Harvey’s brow furrowed deeply, his face contorted with rage as he considered Bob’s words, realizing he was right. Given the current situation, there was no way to take down Link.
With that thought, he grabbed another vase and smashed it on the floor, roaring, “Then what do you suggest? Just let Link off? No way!”
Bob lit a cigar, took a few puffs, and said, “I have three ideas. First, after Link marries into the Trump family, he’ll likely lean towards the Republican Party in politics, and he’s from Florida, a Republican stronghold. Meanwhile, California is a Democratic stronghold, where we have a clear advantage.”
“What’s the point of that? I want to bring down Link, not run for office.”
Harvey said impatiently.
Bob continued, “In California, most actors and singers lean toward the Democratic Party, and the media also favors Democratic policies. We can paint Link as a Republican sympathizer, isolating him. It might not do much, but it’ll stir up hostility towards him, which works in our favor.”
Harvey thought it over and reluctantly agreed with his suggestion.
“Second, we need to recruit allies.
In recent years, Link and his Dynasty Promotions have made a lot of money in the boxing world, while other top promoters like Top Rank, Don King Productions, and Queensberry Promotions have seen profits plummet. I’m sure they resent Link, making them potential partners.
After entering the music industry, Link clashed with East Coast rappers, even affecting the Black actor community. Many Black actors publicly expressed their dislike for Link and refused to work with him. These are also potential allies.”
As Bob spoke, Harvey gradually calmed down, considering his strategies.
“I also heard that Little Kushner was infatuated with Ivanka, and their families almost arranged a marriage, but Link got in the way and crushed Little Kushner’s dreams. Rumor has it that Little Kushner harbors a deep grudge against Link, making him another potential ally.
More importantly, the Kushner family is one of us, our Jewish brothers, so they can be fully trusted.”
*Bob spoke with a meaningful tone.*
Harvey suddenly felt enlightened. That bastard Link had not only deeply offended the Black community on his rise to fame but also clashed with the Kushner family, the representatives of Jewish power in New York, over Ivanka.
By offending these two major groups, Link was practically asking for trouble. With even a little effort from these two communities, no matter how many billions Link was worth, he could be utterly ruined in the blink of an eye.
Realizing this, Harvey suddenly became excited. If they could unite these forces, taking down Link would be a piece of cake.
“The third and simplest way to deal with Link is to keep him in Hollywood. Hollywood is our turf, and Link is a rookie in the film industry. He doesn’t understand movies or investments.
But we’re professionals in this field, with plenty of funds and connections. All we have to do is suppress his box office performance, making every investment a loss. If he invests in one film, we’ll make sure it flops; if he invests in ten, they’ll all flop.
Even if he has billions, how many losses can he withstand? We can also set up projects that look promising but are actually doomed to fail, speeding up the bankruptcy of Link and Palm Beach Pictures. What do you think?”
Bob asked.
Harvey nodded seriously.
The first suggestion could weaken Link’s power on the political front and damage his reputation.
The second involved uniting Link’s enemies to crush him from all sides.
The third leveraged their strengths to defeat him in Hollywood.
All three suggestions were highly practical, and if executed well, taking down Link would be very simple.
“Dear brother, you’ve thought this through well, especially the third point, which I like the most. Making movies is my specialty, and I’m 100% confident I can beat him in this area and make him bleed money.
But the first two ideas are also good; it would be a waste to discard them. So, how about you take charge of contacting Little Kushner, the East Coast rappers, and the boxing companies, and handling the promotion of Link’s Republican leanings?”
Harvey said excitedly.
“No problem, as long as our company profits from it,” Bob emphasized.
He wasn’t very knowledgeable about producing and distributing films, and his skills were average. From Miramax to The Weinstein Company, it was all run by Harvey, while Bob’s role was more like the company’s COO, Harvey’s assistant, and head of logistics.
Unlike Harvey, who enjoyed womanizing and being flattered, Bob preferred cold, hard cash. He agreed to take on Link mainly to carve out a big chunk of Link’s wealth.
“Haha, it’s settled then.”
Harvey stood up excitedly, gave his clever brother a hug, and smiled coldly. “Link Baker, prepare to face my wrath!”
