### Chapter 418: The Swiss Trip
Added 2024-09-13 02:49:38 +0000 UTCDuring breakfast, Andrew Kramer, the COO of international operations, called to inform Link that they had secured the North American distribution rights for "Far Cry" for $250,000. Hearing this figure, Link couldn't help but think it was incredibly cheap, almost like a bargain.
He also understood the distributor's rationale for "Far Cry."
Due to language barriers and cultural differences, Chinese horror films have virtually no market overseas, especially when it's just an average-quality film. Having someone willing to buy the distribution rights was a good thing for the producer; even a small return was better than nothing. For the film, it could also serve as good publicity.
For instance, after the deal, the distribution company could release news in the media that the film's rights were acquired by the renowned Hollywood company, Lionsgate, known for producing the famous "Saw" series of horror films. Under the halo effect, many horror movie fans might think this film must be good if Lionsgate picked it up, and they would be curious enough to check it out in theaters.
It also benefited the lead actors, as having their film released overseas and achieving some box office success could add an "international star" halo in media promotions.
This was one of the reasons Link bought the film: to elevate Yang Dami's status.
Andrew Kramer then mentioned "Mr. Tree," saying that the distributor had already left Cannes and that he was trying to contact the film's producer, Jia Zhangke.
Link acknowledged.
During breakfast, he also ran into Director Allen, who informed him that the Cannes Film Festival organizers wanted to invite him to be a presenter and asked if he was interested. If he was willing, the organizers would send an invitation.
Link declined, saying he was busy with other matters and would be leaving Cannes soon.
"What are you up to? Chasing girls?" Director Allen dipped a piece of French bread into his soup.
"I passed by the Alps yesterday and thought it was beautiful. I plan to take a trip into the mountains to cultivate my sentiments."
Link shrugged.
Director Allen gave him a skeptical smile, not quite believing him.
Link didn't elaborate. After breakfast, he got into a Mercedes SUV that Bob and Wallace had bought in Nice and drove north, passing through the southeastern region of Provence.
Provence is the home of lavender, and in May and June, the lavender fields bloom, creating vast stretches of purple. The air was filled with a refreshing fragrance. There were also extensive vineyards, though the grapes were not yet ripe, with only small clusters of green grapes visible here and there.
The houses along the road had a distinctive local character, with Gothic-style pointed roofs and stone structures. Modern steel-framed buildings were almost nonexistent, and the houses were painted in vibrant colors like peach, orange, and bright yellow, creating a charming scenery.
Link loved the scenery here and considered asking about property prices on the way back so he could bring his children here for vacation in the future.
The car took a day and a half to travel through Provence before entering the southeastern part of Geneva, Switzerland, the next day.
Switzerland, one of the world's wealthiest countries, is also known as the heart of Europe, the kingdom of watches, and the nation of finance. Because much of its land is in the Alps, it is also called the "Mountain Country" and the "Roof of Europe."
Southern and northern Switzerland are all highlands and mountains, with only some lowland plains in the central region. Famous cities like Geneva, Bern, and Zurich are located in these plains.
However, the city Link was visiting, Interlaken, is on a plateau surrounded by towering mountains, with peaks over a thousand meters high, perpetually covered in snow.
Breathing in the cool breeze from the mountains, Link once again felt that Taylor was quite daring to send their newborn child to such a place, showing no concern for the child's safety.
After two days of driving through the Alps, they reached the small town of Leukerbad in Interlaken on the third day. Although it was a tourist town, it was remote and had poor transportation. It took Link two days of driving in the mountains to find the villa at 13 Resnaithera Street, as mentioned by Mrs. Andrea.
However, upon circling the area, he couldn't find any villa numbered 13; there was only a tourist hotel. A poster in the hotel's window advertised a Taylor Swift concert in April, with Taylor in a white dress, her blonde hair flowing, passionately singing into a microphone and flashing a "V" sign at the street.
Sucking on a lollipop, Link approached a police officer to ask about the villa at 13 Resnaithera Street.
The officer said the street was a tourist area and had no villa numbered 13. The adjacent La Ron district, a residential area, had more villas, including a villa numbered 13.
Thanking the officer, Link returned to his car and texted Mrs. Andrea, asking if the address was a mistake.
After a while with no response, he realized it was still the middle of the night in the US.
So he, Bob, and Wallace settled into the hotel.
Hearing from a guide that the famous Swiss landmark Schilthorn was nearby, he and Bob decided to take a trip up the mountain, taking photos in the snow to make little Cynthia envious.
The Schilthorn wasn't very high, only 2,970 meters, and could be accessed by cable car. By the time they descended, it was still daylight, and Link had received a reply from Mrs. Andrea along with two missed calls.
Mrs. Andrea asked what address he was referring to.
Link replied, reminding her of his previous inquiry about visiting the child. She had mentioned that Taylor had sent the child to a villa at 13 Resnaithera Street, Leukerbad, Interlaken, and he sent her a screenshot of that message.
Mrs. Andrea denied sending any such message and said the children were in Nashville, not Switzerland.
Link's face darkened. If Mrs. Andrea didn't send that message, who did?
Click!
In Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Mrs. Andrea opened the study door to find Taylor video chatting, smiling at the screen.
"Mom, do you need something?"
Taylor removed her headphones and looked at her mother.
"Did you send a message from my phone?"
Mrs. Andrea asked sternly.
"No, why would I use your phone to send messages?"
Taylor shook her head.
Mrs. Andrea showed her the screenshot. "Did you send this?"
Taylor glanced at it and immediately remembered. She wrinkled her nose. "Oh, yes, I did. Link went to Switzerland? Haha, he’s so stupid. Switzerland is a Christian country, and he didn’t even guess that 13 is taboo. I just hope Cynthia and Alexander don’t grow up to be as dumb as him."
Mrs. Andrea gave her a look. "You sent it from my phone, so of course he believed it. Are you deliberately making things difficult for him?"
"So what if I am? I spent over a year pregnant and giving birth. Is it too much to ask him to make a trip to Switzerland? I also told him not to bother us, but he kept harassing us. He brought this on himself."
Taylor snorted.
Mrs. Andrea shook her head. "What are you thinking? If you want to completely break up with Link, why have the children? If you don’t want to break up, why not try to reconcile? I think you and Link are very suitable for each other. Even though he’s a bit of a philanderer, he’s young and better than most men out there.
I don’t understand your current actions. What’s your goal? Have you thought about your future, staying single and being a single mom?"
"Mom, stop. I’m happy with my current life and don’t want to consider anything else."
Taylor said.
Seeing her daughter's stubbornness, Mrs. Andrea said no more. Taylor was very headstrong; unless she changed her mind, nothing others said would matter.
Leaving the study, Mrs. Andrea texted Link, informing him that the children were not in Switzerland and had not been sent away. She advised him to contact Taylor directly for any further questions.
Link, receiving Mrs. Andrea's message, tried sending a WhatsApp message to Taylor.
"Are you there?"
"What do you want? Don’t start with 'are you there'; I hate that question."
Taylor’s reply was sharp, conveying her irritation.
"Sorry, you blocked me before, so I had to check if my messages were getting through."
Link quickly replied.
"So it’s my fault?!!"
"No, it’s my fault. I’m glad to hear our children are fine. Thank you; you’ve worked hard."
"Thank you?? Why thank me? They’re my children. I gave birth to them. It has nothing to do with you, and I don’t need your thanks."
"Okay, okay. Wait, 'they'? Twins? Triplets? Quadruplets?"
Link asked in surprise.
"Idiot, are you crazy?! I’m a human, not an animal. How could I have quadruplets?! It’s twins. Didn’t Annie tell you?"
"No, Annie just said the child was fine and not to worry. She didn’t mention anything else. So it’s twins? We have two children? Darling, you’re amazing. Most women can only have one at a time; you had two. You’re incredible."
Link praised without hesitation.
"Shut up! I don’t need your compliments. And Alexander and Cynthia are my children. They have nothing to do with you. Don’t even think about finding out where they are. If you dare try, I’ll send them to Africa."
Taylor said.
Link's mouth twitched.
"Alexander and Cynthia? A boy and a girl? That’s wonderful, and their names are beautiful. Are they with you now
?"
"Idiot, did you not understand what I said?!!"
"Okay, okay, I’m sorry. I know they’re with you and safe. Thank you. Is there anything I can do for you? Do you need anything? You had two children. You must need a lot of things."
"Don’t act like a good person, sending me some money? Get lost. I’m not short of money. The sales of my album in the past two years have reached 20 million copies, and I made over 30 million dollars from copyright alone last year. Do you think I need your help?!"
Taylor's pride was evident in her words.
"Great, my goddess is truly incredible. You’re a great mother and a great artist."
"Idiot, why are you still praising me? I said I don’t need your compliments. Stop bothering me."
Link typed "thank you" again but didn’t send it. After some thought, he texted, "I know you don’t need my help, but they are also my children. I feel a bit guilty. I’m in Switzerland now. I’d like to buy some local specialties for the children and send them to you. Do you need anything?"
Taylor didn’t reply for a while.
Link thought she might have blocked him again. He sighed, shook his head, and got ready for dinner.
As he finished packing his things, his phone rang. It was a message from Taylor.
"You don’t need to send anything. We have everything here."
Seeing this, Link felt relieved. At least Taylor didn’t block him again. He knew he had to be more cautious in the future, gradually breaking down Taylor’s defenses and making her trust him again.
This would be a long process, but he was willing to wait.
