Chapter 136: A Worthy Opponent (Part 1)
Added 2024-09-16 02:06:39 +0000 UTC"This is impossible! Urgh..." Faora-Ul screamed instinctively, only to be hit by a powerful front kick.
The terrifying force left Faora-Ul’s stomach numb.
At that moment, a large golden light shot across the sky.
Faora-Ul barely managed to use her hands to shield her vital points before she was "smashed."
A translucent, ghostly hoof landed accurately on her "Kryptonian" mask. Suddenly deprived of the protective atmosphere of her home planet and exposed to Earth's air, Faora-Ul felt a whirlwind in her head.
Then came the third strike.
A very beautiful woman leaped high into the air, transforming into a golden streak as she swept past.
The coordination of the three attackers was flawless, as if they could predict Faora-Ul's every reaction. No matter how she struggled, she couldn't escape this final blow.
Faora-Ul felt like a broken puppet about to be discarded—she faced the blow head-on with a look of despair and disbelief, and then she was pierced straight through.
Just one more strike to kill this top-tier warrior under the general.
But right at this moment, a barrage of laser fire rained down.
“Biubiubiu—”
These weren't lasers from regular troops; they were from a large Kryptonian landing craft's main laser cannon. Even Wonder Woman wouldn’t dare take a direct hit and had to curl up behind her divine shield to avoid the attack.
And so, Wonder Woman was blasted away.
The Kryptonian landing craft performed a beautiful aerial maneuver and opened its rear hatch. A Kryptonian soldier flew out and caught Faora-Ul-O.
“Pursue… we can’t catch up!” Atreus was furious.
The [Tragedy of Troy] wasn’t exactly lacking in power; with all its might, it could reach speeds of 200 kilometers per hour. The problem was that the enemy was using a spaceship; in the blink of an eye, it flew out of sight, beyond the limits of human vision.
That absurd speed only made Atreus ’s desire burn hotter. "If I get myself one of those ships, that wouldn’t be too much to ask, right?"
The flying chariot picked up Wonder Woman again, and Atreus hadn’t expected her to tease him: “Hey, I saw that female adjutant over there looks pretty good. Why did you go for a kill shot?”
Atreus looked embarrassed.
He admitted hypocritically that there was probably, maybe, just a one percent chance he was someone whose values followed his tastes.
If beauty was justice, then Faora-Ul-O might be a mix of good and evil—passable at best.
Atreus had no interest in going to great lengths to settle a fanatical Kryptonian general’s brainwashed follower.
Moreover, Kryptonians’ strengths and weaknesses were clear—they were truly strong, with basic attributes at least on par with Thor, or even slightly stronger. But when faced with kryptonite, they were truly weak.
At this moment, Tony Stark flew up in his Iron Man suit.
“Kratos! The enemy has a strange aircraft heading toward the waters between Gotham and New York, activating some kind of anti-gravity device. Looks like we have to take it down.”
“Any conclusions?” The transmigrator feigned ignorance.
“The scientists are analyzing it.”
Inside NORAD, the scientists were sweating bullets. On the big screen, a model of Earth was displayed. At this moment, a Kryptonian mothership, shaped like a three-clawed octopus, had descended next to New York, echoing the two Kryptonian landing ships on the other side of the Earth.
A clearly visible gravitational wave was bouncing back and forth between two devices at opposite ends of the Earth, like a ping-pong ball.
“My God! Those bastards are trying to alter Earth's gravity, which would completely change the planet's atmosphere,” a scientist said.
“What would happen to us?” Director Nick Fury asked.
“No, once the modification is complete, there might be no ‘us’ left. No human can survive in a drastically altered atmospheric environment.”
There was no need to think; the White House ordered a battle.
But the battle started off terribly.
“Report! We’ve discovered a strange anti-gravity field near the enemy mothership; all our attacks are being deflected,” a fighter pilot reported while besieging the mothership.
Simply put, Earth’s commonly used weapons, whether missiles or bullets, are kinetic energy weapons.
These weapons, which rely on metal projectiles propelled by explosive gunpowder, cannot escape the shackles of gravity.
When the Kryptonian mothership twisted the surrounding magnetic field and caused gravity to fluctuate wildly, Earth’s weapons were rendered useless.
Not only were the jets crashing due to the gravitational field, but even the missiles couldn’t penetrate the vast, invisible barrier. The destructive power from missile explosions was unnaturally compressed into a very small area by the intense gravity.
Tony grumbled on the Avengers’ communication channel, “I originally thought I’d have to carry the nuke again this time. Damn it, it seems even nukes might be useless now.”
At this moment, Lois Lane approached Director Nick Fury: “Kal... Superman’s father mentioned a Phantom Engine. If we use the spaceship Kal arrived in on Earth as a missile, in theory, it could break through the Kryptonian mothership’s defensive field.”
At this point, in Atreus ’s mind, this troublesome matter was pretty much resolved.
Just launch Superman’s little spaceship in a David vs. Goliath move to blow up the Kryptonian mothership. Then wait for Big Supes to finish off General Zod, and everything would be just fine.
Even the [Kryptonite] the transmigrator had secretly acquired wouldn’t be needed.
But life is unpredictable.
Whoever claims “victory is ours” often doesn’t fare well.
Clearly, the script in this world had been scribbled over by the goddess of misfortune.
Before Big Supes broke free, General Zod drew some of his blood, and was shocked to discover it contained the DNA of all Kryptonians—Big Supes was the so-called Codex of Krypton.
The General immediately had it analyzed by the mothership’s computer and loaded onto a landing craft.
Superman, being utterly selfless for the weak and helpless Earthlings, destroyed the landing craft containing the DNA of unborn Kryptonians with a dramatic eye beam.
Who knew that in this world, the transport plane carrying Superman’s spaceship was a bit too close to their battle, and the General used his own “death glare” to blow up Superman’s spaceship too.
This time, humanity theoretically lost all means of interfering with the Kryptonian mothership.
“No way—what do we do now?” Tony shouted in the comms channel, “Hey! Kratos, can you teleport in directly!?”
Atreus tried and failed” “Damn it! That thing twists not just gravity but also space coordinates. I can’t get in!”
Even the great hero Kratos was at a loss; the situation was rapidly deteriorating.
At this critical moment, almost unnoticed, a cloud opened up a space portal similar to a fiery ring.
From the ever-sparking portal, a hooded figure clad in an orange-yellow monk’s robe emerged mysteriously.
Atreus almost had a heart attack. Standing atop his flying chariot in the sky, he quietly bowed to the mysterious figure.
A peerless warrior guarding Earth deserved his utmost respect.
