*Chapter 147: A Tracker (First Update)*

"What special trait?" This time, it was Jane's turn to be confused.

"An all-encompassing trait, well... the ability to contain extraordinary power. After my research on many extraordinary individuals, Miss Foster, there's a good chance you could become one yourself."

"Huh?"

Before she could react, Atreus suddenly pulled out a taser and shot Jane in the arm.

Three seconds later, Jane belatedly screamed, "Ah!"

All three of them were both shocked and angry, silently wondering why this bizarre rich boy would attack without warning. Even though police across the U.S. often complain that tasers aren't very effective against drug addicts, for most unprotected people, it should incapacitate them immediately.

Getting tased is definitely an unpleasant experience.

Jane's face turned pale; she did feel the shock, but it felt more like a mosquito zapper than a proper taser.

"Is this thing legit?" Ian next to her quipped.

"Do you want to try it?" Atreus smiled mysteriously.

"Sure, let's give it a shot."

next shot almost turned guy into a blubbering mess. same taser made his entire body seize up, his lips quiver, and nearly caused him to lose control of his bladder.

Now it was Jane's turn to be confused.

"Miss Foster, may we talk privately?"

"Uh, okay."

Once they were alone in the room, Atreus said, "I know about you and Thor..."

Jane's nerves immediately tensed, her fingers stretching out in front of her face, about two inches away: "We've already broken up!"

This time it was Atreus's turn to be dumbfounded. After a few seconds, he continued, "Thor is undoubtedly a man who fits the human definition of a 'god.' His long lifespan, powerful physique, and ever-present divine energy... I'd prefer to call it 'divinity.'"

Realizing he wasn't prying into her relationship with Thor, Jane began to calm down. "Divinity?"

"Yes, divinity. You could say it's a unique power or quality that makes gods stand out. For instance, Thor's..."

Jane frowned and blurted out, "Denseness?"

Atreus rolled his eyes. "Alright, he’s definitely dense, but I was talking about his thunderous power."

"Uh, Louise once told me that being near Thor sometimes made her skin crawl and her hair stand on end."

Atreus snapped his fingers. "Exactly! That's his thunder power. Even when he tries to control it, a tiny fraction still leaks out, and even that can be overwhelming for most mortals. Yet you easily accepted it."

Jane was baffled. She weakly asked, "Have you been spying on me or Thor?"

"I've sponsored many superheroes, including Batman and Kratos..."

Jane instinctively doubted Atreus’s words. In her mind, a man as rich as him had no reason to do such things. But then she remembered Tony Stark—rich people could be pretty eccentric.

She decided to keep listening.

"Yes, I have a very wealthy father. But what use is money in the face of world-ending crises? First, it was the Chitauri, then the Kryptonians. Who knows what comes next? I fund superheroes to protect myself."

Jane nodded lightly. "I agree with your point."

"The key now is that Earth’s strongest protector, Ancient One, may have less than three years to live. After that, we’ll rely on existing and next-generation superheroes to defend the planet." Atreus thoughtfully played a short, exclusive VIP clip showing the Ancient One using time reversal to dismantle a Kryptonian mothership.

Still a bit dazed, Jane began to grasp what Atreus was getting at. "Mr. Wayne, how many growing superheroes are you investing in?"

"I'm aiming for a hundred. As long as one of them succeeds, it'll be a win for both me and Earth."

"Okay, let's assume I am the future superhero you're hoping for. If I succeed, what will I owe you in return?"

Atreus intertwined his fingers under his chin, suddenly looking like a mastermind. "Though I'd love to say protecting Earth is the best repayment, I do have a condition—if you truly become extraordinary, I want you to sign a divine contract allowing me to borrow up to 10% of your total power, no questions asked."

future Lady Thor still felt like she was in a dream. It was all so surreal. But she had to admit, there did seem to be something special about her.

"And if I don’t become extraordinary?" Jane asked stubbornly.

"Then my investment would be a failure. I won’t hold you accountable in any way. I can put that in writing with any public notary."

Jane couldn’t think of a reason to refuse. Finally, she asked, "What can you offer me?"

"Up to fifty million dollars in research funding, two top-tier bodyguards, and a Kratos' interstellar emergency beacon. If you ever face a danger that even Thor can't handle, you can use it."

Jane managed to stay calm for the first two offers, but the third one left her stunned.

Thor had disappeared during the New York battle and hadn’t come to see her afterward. Jane had been sulking about it, but she reminded herself they had broken up.

Still, she had watched the New York battle footage closely.

She knew Kratos was one of the top three heroes of that battle.

Being able to single-handedly take down a Leviathan was the mark of a top-tier warrior!

Having him as a backup meant her life was much safer.

"Alright, I agree. But I want to see that 'emergency beacon' first." Jane was a smart woman. She always kept an eye out for Atreus's potential traps.

She may have broken things off with Thor, but she wouldn’t allow anyone to use her to hurt him.

Atreus smiled and pressed a button. In the next moment, the entire room silently descended into a spacious, brightly lit underground chamber.

Jane Foster was stunned. She witnessed the “Tragedy of Troy,” and then Wonder Woman, fully armored with a golden half-mask, leaped ten meters and landed lightly in front of her.

"Are you Miss Jane Foster, the one Mr. Wayne values?"

"Yes, that's me." Jane was dumbfounded. She might not give her ex, Thor, the time of day, but she couldn’t ignore the presence of Wonder Woman, widely regarded by most American women as the strongest female superhero. Seeing Wonder Woman, Jane couldn’t help but display a fangirl-like expression.
